The 2 successive wins did not change anything. My opinion of Hodgson is still the same – he’s a 2nd rate manager trying and failing miserably to manage a team with 1st rate players. I still dun see any shape in our play especially in the attacking area. And I dun think he has any tactical plan in place. I dun see him shouting any specific or intelligent instructions from the sideline. The occasional sideline noises coming from him are the usual motivational rants, which even I can do it. Then it’s back to the bench to stroke his chin and hope for the best. In the last match against Bolton, I can see him clasping his hands nervously and talking to Sammy Lee. About what I dunno but as the manager of Liverpool, he definitely did not project a confident and composed image. And we’re playing Bolton FFS!!!
Our attacking play nowadays relies very much on the individual skills of Torres, Gerrard, Cole, Maxi etc to create the opportunities. Is it mere coincidence to see us closing down high up in the pitch during our 2 recent wins? I wonder how much of this is due to Hodgson since this tactic was previously employed by Rafa? At the moment, we’re still not good enough. We need to do more in attack. I wonder what the players think of Hodgson. I wonder how much of Torres’ lack of form is due to Hodgson. I worry that the longer Hodgson stays on, the closer the likes of Torres, Agger, Pacheco etc will be to the exit door. I worry that our best young talents will get frustrated and leave, especially with Hodgson’s “principle” of preferring experience over youth, which is absolute rubbish in my opinion! And worst of all, I worry that we’ll waste our transfer funds and lose some of our good players at the hands of an average manager in January.
I dun think NESV will sack Hodgson JUST YET. That would be too drastic and risky especially when we’re not playing too well at the moment. I believe they will stick with him for now with 2 baselines in mind. Baseline 1 (X’mas) – If he fails to deliver results from now till X’mas, he will be gone. Else, he will still be manager until the summer which is Baseline 2. He will be given the funds in January but minimal. Baseline 2 (Summer) – His contract will be terminated and replaced with a world class manager, irregardless of his performance. Unless of course he can perform a miracle and get us to 4th, which is impossible!
From what I see, it’s obvious the crucial period for Hodgson is from now until X’mas. He must win most, if not all of the games. We can easily slip back into the relegation zone if we lose a couple of matches. The bad news for us is that the likes of Blackpool and WBA are performing above expectations, so we better keep on winning, there’s not much room for error. Loser Hodgson may not care whether we are in 18th or 19th position but we care and we mind! So if I’m John Henry, my message to Hodgson is clear and simple – “Win 90% of the matches from now until X’mas and I can guarantee u a Merry X’mas with funds available in January. It won’t be much but should be good enough to improve the squad. DO NOT COMPLAIN! BUT if u fail, I’ll be happy to write the cheque for your 1-year salary compensation payoff. Thank you very much, Roy. That’s all for now. Oh and please do remember to keep your mouth shut during press conferences for now and get back to your job proper! Goodbye.”
