Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

His passing is below par and at the highest level gets punished. He is very robotic the way he moves around the field and looks very nervous. All that aside I still feel he is better defensively then Insua and even Glen Johnson.

I'm pretty happy with the progress Konchesky is making. Like Poulsen and the manager he's getting an unbelieveably raw deal off the best fans in the land, but he remains a better player than Insua and he continues to improve.

Can't pass, can't cross, rarely gets beyond the half way line, and his positioning is sh*te for the most part, but other than that, he'd make a good championship player.

apart from the numerous times yesterday which saw him belting across the half way line and even getting a few crosses in, of course.

the fella has also made two goal line clearances for us in two games. tough like one of them bounced back in off carra but at least he's been busting a gut to get back and defend.

:nod  i remember he made a really smart pass on the edge of the box somewhere in the 2nd half. i think it was to Cole or Torres.

All round defensively he's better than Insua, but still very pedestrian for a club like Liverpool. Ought to have done better in preventing Coleman getting the cross in vs the bitters, and again vs Blackburn after Skrtel's error. He wasn't responsible for either of those situations escalating to the "feck me we're in the sh!t here, lads" stage (Lucas and Skrtel were) but he did have chances to dig us out of the sh!t, and a top defender might well have done.

He's very average, always has been always will be. Never good enough for a club like Liverpool FC, he's a premiership standard player, at a bottom half team.

I was probably a little harsh on him from Sunday's game (so far as their goal goes) but I'm still not happy with him. He absolutely pinged a 25 yard ball back to Reina at chest height in the last few minutes that the keeper only just managed to control. No doubt he'd be getting a much harder time if that had cost us. And Mick, I don't think he's getting a particularly harsh deal from fans and  like Poulsen he hasn't looked up to it. If he can pull a couple of solid performances out of the bag then no doubt the fans will warm to him. Dossena was lambasted early doors for good reason, hopefully Konchesky will prove the early criticism is misplaced but I've got my doubts.

bigmick wrote:Yes I thought he was good against Blackburn too. He's been criticised sometimes for things which clearly weren't his fault, but I think the majority of that is because Roy signed him rather than his actual play. He was even criticised for Evertons first goal, despite the fact it was Lucas who first gave the ball away with a silly header when ought to have pulled it down, Lucas who missed the tackle when the fella breezed past him, and despite the fact konchesky got the block on the cross. As the resulting ricochet bounced in the direction of a totally unmarked Cahill, course it was Konchesky's fault :D..

Like most of the subjects on the board though it is pointless debating them right now until people have calmed down a bit so I haven't bothered. He did well yesterday though, and would have had a goalline clearance to his name had it not hit Carra. No doubt people will blame that one on him as well, despite Benjani walking past Skyrtel and carra losing both the ball and Diouff. Konchesky is unfortunately for him guilty by association, but fortunately for us he is a good solid left back as well.

konchesky for england

Your right mate, havin' trouble pickin' them out as well.

It would help if they at least painted their numbers on their bonces.  :D

It would mate! It's like the late 90's when everyone had the grade 3-4 all over look going on! Remember we had Harkness, Matteo, Gerrard and David Thompson all with the same hair-cut!

The fact we've got a few players who look similar might explain why Konchesky gets the blame for everything, and also why some fans think "he doesn't cross the half way line" . Lets be charitable and put the latter down to mistaken identity :) .
