Do whatever you want , when the team is playing is when the team needs our support . What happens in between has no bearing on the game or results .

I disagree
That would suggest that the mood of supporters before a game has no effect on the players, manager or the match. If people are angry, frustrated, pi'ssed off or annoyed as they are going in to watch the match then this can dictate how they behave during the match. If there is a feeling of dissilusionment and despair amongst fans then this can affect the atmosphere and therefore the result (think 12th man).
Fans talk constantly before and after the match about every aspect of every part of the club and if there is enough of a popular opinion, whether it is correct or not then this can convince people about a certain issue and therefore influence their thinking and viewpoint. This then gets passed on and grows until it almost becomes "fact"
If only life was as simple as you make out.

If fans are annoyed or angry or pis.sed off it will be for a reason - the reason being the team and the manager are disappointing and letting down the fans . If things were going well then the fans would be happy so where does the blame lie ? At the team and who is in charge of the team ? The manager

Good point
So we now agree that what happens in between can have a bearing on the game and results

Only to the extent that last season's squad wasn't good enough to mount a serious title challenge do I agree with you Igor. Rafa had enough at his disposal to make a better shot of fourth, and to go a lot further in the cups (no excuses for failing to qualify from that CL group and to get beat by Reading at home). Whose fault was it that that squad wasn't so competitive as the 08/09 squad? Bit of both - the owners for not investing more on the back of our best ever Premier League season, but for me primarily Rafa, since it was he who completely failed to replace Alonso (that had such a bearing on 09/10) and he who had made two or three big errors (i.e. Babel, Dossena, Keane: none even partially successful) previous to that summer, that left our squad paper thin and prone to what we saw in 09/10 - injuries, players out of form, and a manager stuck in a rut. Roy inherited an imbalanced squad with no adequate cover for Alonso, no adequate cover for Torres, no reliable left back, an aging, an injured and an out of form CB, no real wingers etc.. and there were/are question marks wherever you look. He's gone some way to sorting out our midfield with the acquisitions of Meireles and Cole and has otherwise attempted to make the most of what little funds he had but whatever the case may be, I haven't seen anyone dispute that we have enough ability in our ranks to be in the top half of the table right now - to that extent at least we are all saying "it's Roy".

Your link doesn't work, however their comments are besides the point. We have a squad capable of performing to a given level and that level is not bottom three after 8 games, it's considerably higher: we - forumites, fans, players, manager, owners, anyone with a clue, can all agree on that point. If the team doesn't perform to a reasonable standard, the manager is the man charged with getting them to (that's why he's there) by whatever means necessary.

Saint, I haven't read the article but the senior players at any club struggling almost always trot out the "it's the players fault, not the manager" comments, it's standard practice isn't it?

Yes it is...

Why would any senior player say "Yes, the buck stops with the manager...". That will create more problems. He will be accused of causing dressing room unrest and in some cases shipped out...

No mate, apparently last season's squad which was good enough to challenge for the title can suddenly over the summer become less than adequate because Carra is ageing. Don't you know that he's already 32 and most CB's don't play at age 32 anymore?  :D

Absolutely is almost a bigger cliche then "We are taking one game at a time"

The squad became not good enough when we didn't replace our top players 2 seasons ago and strengthen our weak areas when we had to.

Sorry MH I thought we had a squad last year which could have delivered the title but previous manager had lost the dressing room and the plot. All we need was someone who could put an arm around the shoulder of players
