It's comments like this that makes one think this fella is a WUM because he clearly has not seen the game and assumes if you are losing 3-0 at half time you never attacked and were simply battered....borrow a DVD of the final and watch it closely.....even the bitters would acknowledge we attacked and worcester mancs too  ???

I apologise if I've caused offence but I remember watching the CL 2005 final with friends and being very fecking embarassed at half time and very very proud at full time. Perhaps I do remember it wrong but I'm certainly no WUM.

excuse my ignorance, whats a wum? something to do with the scum??

Why do "comments like this continue to undermine Mr Hodgson" though Zara, I don't get it. He's saying we played just about to the optimum of our ability, and considering we could have conceiveably been three or four in front by half time, what's the problem with that?

Clearly the bunch of players Roy was left with/has ended up with after he has bought and sold a few isn't good enough to win the league so what's the point in pretending it is?

I must confess far from "comments like this" undermining Hodgson, it's posters who continue to deleve into what he's said for hidden meanings, signs of weakness or an excuse to put the boot in which continue to undermine him. He was roundly criticised last week for:

Having a glass of wine and smiling in a hotel bar the day before we played Napoli ("he should be fecking working out how we are going to beat Blackburn").

He was rounded upon because he explained that he wasn't going to play Kelly against Blackburn as he preferred to go with more experience in such an important match, ("he should learn to keep his fecking mouth shut").

He was pilloried for saying he would never resign from Liverpool ("he should feck off now and maintain some dignity").

It was stated while we were beating Blackburn that it didn't matter as Roy is a "load of fecking sh!t".

He was called a "buffoon" because he selected the team which eventually put in our best performance of the season, a "twaaaaaat" for not going with Kelly, and it was stated that he "shouldn't be allowed inside the city of Liverpool".

Since the game, we've heard that if we don't beat BOTH OF BOLTON AND CHELSEA, Roy should "feck off anyway".

Now, because he's saying we played just about as well as we can play for 70 minutes, we're told that he is undermining himself.

My contention is that he isn't undermining "himself" at all. There is plenty of undermining going on, but it aint the manager who's doing it.

this team has never played madrid, and has played man u once and everton once at times of almost zero confidence. now a bit of confidence is coming back and this team put in a very, very good 70 minutes of football. in fact i reckon that if we played like that for the rest of the season most fans would be fairly happy.

maybe roy could have said 'you aint seen nothing yet', or 'this lot are capable of much much better than that' and maybe risked undermining the players' growing confidence. the thing is that now he will never be able to say anything right, however we play and whatever happens.

Andy be honest mate are  you gonna be happy if thats the best we can play , . because im not mate I think with the squad we have we could play much better ,
And i agree with what you said about he should of said something along the lines of We can play much better than this once we get going ,And i only mentioned Real Madrid as an example , look at the team that night mate apart from two players the rest are still here , We have actualy played some wonderful football and drew played some beautiful football and lost but with the similar squad we have now , Thats why i cant understand why he would come out with we cant play better than we did against Blackburn, because we can mate , We know they can ,the players themselves know they can , so why doesnt Roy think we can, thats all thats bothering me ,

Thats apples and oranges though Nan.

The team that slaughtered Real and Utd had your beloved Xabi in it and was stronger overall because of it.

But somebody pissed him off and he left.

This current team is in a much weaker position, due to many circumstances, so the performance against BB has to be seen in that light.

I want him to come out and say: "We have the greatest players and the best team in the world. We have won 5 european cups and 18 league titles and we will not be defeated for the next ten years"
If not that, then he should at least say: " I guarantee we will finish in the top four"
If he doesnt, sack him

My contention is that he isn't undermining "himself" at all. There is plenty of undermining going on, but it aint the manager who's doing it.

The problem is Mick on each issue you refer to there you are using the most extreme anti-Roy example of what people have said. Zara is a fairly 'moderate objector' from what I have seen and I think the comment she makes above is moderate also.

I don't agree with the things you have quoted above, quite frankly some are ridiculous imo but I do agree that while Roy continually presents us as a 'small club' it does not display the kind of mentality that we need and as Zara says these kind of comments do continue to undermine him. Not because people choose to read into them that way, but because comment after comment can be interpreted in this way.

He would have been better to say something like "The players played well against Blackburn but I know that is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of what they can achieve and as always we will be working hard on the training pitch to get to where we know we can be."

Arsene Wenger has been saying for the last I don't know how many years that his young players are capable of winning the league. Last season Rafa promised 4th place from a long way out, although later admitted that as manager he had to show confidence in the players and I agree any manager should do this, not just can them off and say the first good performance is as good as they can be.

Let's be fair though, Sunday was a big step in the right direction on the pitch and surely we didn't expect Roy to completely change overnight. Hopefully should they decide to stick with him (which incidentally I still hope they don't) NESV will give Roy intensive some positive thinking tuition & instill that winning mentality he needs!
