Who knows maybe we can even catch Birmingham like we did last season ...... although I don't think they're  in the Prem this season otherwise they would have be mentioned much more often ....... beggars belief it really does :D

I think we need to "collect" valuable points against everyone we can Red, that much is absolutely obvious. To suggest though that the manager MUST win against both Bolton AND  Chelsea is just being silly. You obviously want to align yourself with your fellow Possarian but have had the good sense to temper it to "collect points", even that of course won't be easy.

As for Birmingham, of course we need to catch them. Blackburn is more pressing though right now. If you remember last season we finally finished up 11 points ahead of them after 38 matches, which was no mean effort. We are currently level with them after nine, so obviously we've got to press on. Once we've had hopefully a couple more wins, perhaps even a draw or two, we'll get a good idea of where we are and where we need to be.

As for "mentioning" Birmingham, we had many good discussions about them when we failed to become the first team for over a calendar year to beat them at St Andrews. We got a draw there, but like the 3-2 defeat at Old Trafford it was considered a desperately poor effort by many.

There's time though hopefully to get back in amongst those who we spent much of last season neck and neck with. Birmingham you are quite right turned out to be one of our main rivals, Aston Villa, Everton and the like were tough nuts to crack, sometimes too tough in truth.

Still time though mate. I've no doubt the posse will have many more days to put the boot in, but hopefully the rest of us can have some good days too. That would be nice.

Sound Mick ...you only have to mention Birmingham 197 more times this season to render my argument void .  :;):  ....as for being silly expecting a win against Bolton and Chelsea .....why would this be the case when every game we play will be a cup final
However I don't think you should be overly concerned with Blackburn they showed Yesterday how completely inept a manager they have at the helm ,so I don't expect them to be challenging us for 8th or any position equally as outrageous ...anyway that said couldn't we drop this posse thing its sounding a bit like the "My Dads bigger than your Dad " arguments we used to have in the schoolyard ..... surely we're better than this Lad  ...
I nearly said bigger then

dont talk rubbish we attacked from the first minute. When did rafa ever do that for fecksake.

Rafa's team did plenty of that...

Yeah we did, we'd attack for 5 minutes, not get a goal then heads would slump and we'd play counter attacking defensive football for the rest of the match, those are my memories of last season anyway.
I genuinly can't remember us attacking form the start in Istanbul though, if memory serves we were completely humiliated in the first half then staged an epic comeback against an arrogant AC Milan side.

I think you need to go watch the DVD of that again before talking bollox. We were attacking (apart from their first goal) and got caught by THEM on the counter, not the other way around.

Amazing how some people love to rewrite history. I'd expect it from other fans of other teams and the media, but not our own.

surely its acceptable for a fan to have a differing view of a game. we spent time going forward in the first half for sure, but we weren't exactly going for the jugular were we? now just because someone erroneously put out the idea that this poster is a WUM he's fair game for a little schoolyard ganging up.

It's hardly a differing view when you distort the facts.

I wonder how much actually had to do with Hodgson or whether it was the players who realised something. Either way Hodgson knows he has no excuses from now on. I still doubt he'll be at the club very long even if he does get us into the top six.

"I don't think we can play a lot better than we did against Blackburn," said the manager.

"With the team we have at the moment, if people expect us to really play a lot better football than we did for 70 minutes at the start of the Blackburn game they are going to be asking a lot.

"What could happen is we could get a lot more goals for that performance but I don't think we could play better.

"We conceded next to no goal chances, we pressurised the ball and won it back quickly, our passing and movement was good and it was only good goalkeeping, some goal-line saves and a few blocks which made the difference.

"It could have been a clear victory so I suppose for me it is much more a case of wanting the team to continue along these lines and, most importantly, continue to battle because we are in a battling situation.

"We are still closer to the relegation zone than we are to the top of the table and if we get beat next week at Bolton we are suddenly back to square one again.

"There is nothing to do other than keep working at it.

"We need to show a bit of humility and accept if we are not the Liverpool of yore we will try to become it."

Hodgson's reign has been played out against the backdrop of off-field ownership issues.

Now they have been concluded after New England Sports Ventures £300million takeover the hope is that a period of stability and growth with follow.

Hodgson, whose position has come under scrutiny after such a poor start to the season, hopes the new owners will back him in the transfer window while he continues to try to get the best out of the squad he inherited when he took over from Rafael Benitez on July 1.

Asked whether he had under-estimated the job ahead of him when he moved from Fulham, Hodgson replied: "I knew that everything was not as it should be, not least of all because of the worries hanging over the club in terms of who was going to own it and whether there would be money for new players and to re-invest.

"I also knew there were doubts about the size and the quality of the squad - but you don't know if those doubts were correct until you come in and start working with the players.

"I came with my eyes open but I did come in knowing the expectations on us could be greater than what we are capable of achieving, immediately.

"The only way I thought that could be dealt with was by working on the field of play, making sure we are organised and know what we are doing and every player knows his job."

Obviously it's something to do with Roy Hodgson or you wouldn't keep chirping about it in this thread.

It's comments like these that continue to undermine Mr Hodgson..  :shift:

OK so someone who reads a situation differently from you is distorting facts then are they? What if you distort facts in the first place, who is then the distorter, hang on I just gave myself a headache.  :D
Look the game in Istanbul was perhaps the clearest case of a game of two halves I've ever witnessed, if you don't think AC Milan p1ssed all over us in the first half then I think you need to re-examine the footage not me. Anyway who cares, we won, and what a fantastic victory it was, I'll never forget that night. Only shame is that it will be a long time before we have one of those nights again, at least 2-3 years unless we magically get 4th spot this year.  :sniffle

It's the white stuff that gets left on your doorstep in the morning...put it on cereal, in tea or coffee ...comes from cows but all mammals produce it....also used to make cheese, cream and John delivers it down Kings Road, Caldy

Do people still actually pay a milkman to deliver milk? I thought they were extinct !

The only white stuff that gets left on our doorstep is bird sh!t the dirty b@stards !
