:D

We just need to start him in every game where he'll have this type of space...

Seriously, I think he is a good squad player, and given our current state, I don't mind much either way if he stays or goes.

If he goes, we've got some youth who could take his place on the bench, which would be good or bad depending on the opposition, but good for the future.

If he stays, we've got an experienced squad player who'll work hard for the team, and while he won't set the world alight, I don't think he is as bad as he is being made out here.

Either way I'm comfortable. It probably depends on what we'd get for him and whether the money was available for strengthening in other areas (CM isn't a huge need compared to pretty much every other part of the team...)

He isn't good enough and never will be. Nice lad though by all accounts.

I like him as a player and still think he can do a job in our midfield ....when are posters and fans (or for that matter the manager )going to come to terms with the fact  we need someone capable of making tackles in that area ...Lucas does the ugly job of getting stuck in, and until we have someone akin to playing the Mascherano role he is vital to the strength of the team ...otherwise we will have the piss taken out of us by the Cattermole's and Fletchers of this world

I am sick and tired of this:

-He is an honest bloke
-He does the ugly things
-He does the unnoticed stuff
-He gives to charity
-Has always a warm thing to say about the club
-Always gives his all

Those are not reasons to have a player at the club.
I don't give a flying **** about that unless they have skill and quality on the field.

It is not a ****ing daycare center, it is a football club aspiring to be the best.

Anyone who has seen Lucas Leiva play for Brazil recently will see what he is deployed in an advanced MF role and he is one of Brazil's main players. He IS NOT a defensive midfielder and the sooner management realise this the better. We have a player in Lucas but he is simply being played out of position. The issue we have is that we haven't replaced Mascherano or Alonso and as a result we have to play players like Lucas, Meireles and Gerrard in the defensive role when it's clear that they would prefer to play further up the park. Add to this the fact Poulson simply isn't good enough and that's why our MF looks lightweight and we are not competing in the area of the park!!

A great performance today from Lucas, a lad who played 90 mins for Brazil recently but according to some is not good anough for LFC  :D

Yet another performance when he has proved his worth, got through his defensive work despite not being a naturally defensive centre mid and disproved the myth that he only passes sideways.

Roy has realised Poulsen is definitely not an improvement on Lucas, credit to him for that and on the subject. All those in the Hodgson thread claiming credit has to be given ought to get in here and pay their respects..........

Good game from Lucas .....closed down effectively and distributed well and could have got a headed goal ..an efficient workmanlike performance from the Lad allowing Gerrard , Meireles and Cole   the freedom they needed to attack
Its amazing how many posters are actually willing to acknowledge this fact ....in all honesty this  must be the loneliest thread when the Lad has played well ....but a veritable hive of activity when he has had a bad game

Credit where credit is due, Lucas played well today.  But, just as with the manager, he has to do it on a more consistent basis to be considered Liverpool material.

liked him a lot today. some of his passing was excellent in its timing and its weight, always played along the ground and nicely in to feet. kept the tempo ticking along nicely for long periods.

IMHO he needs lots of time on the ball to be effective.
He was allowed a lot of time & space yesterday.
Should the opponent press him each time he has the ball, he will concede possession.
Nevertheless, he did play well yesterday.
Think he will do well in La Liga or Serie A.

him and mereiles have the potential to form a great partnership in the middle long term. yesterday it made a difference because the ball wasn't being hoofed from the back all day long.

it was encouraging to see him setting the tempo though but as bad bob says he now needs to do it on a more regular basis. in the past he's almost looked in awe of the other players around him. yesterday he took the game by the scruff of the neck.

how poulsen can ever start ahead of him is beyond me.
