I've read more of the interview on various sites.
Hodgson said he would do everything possible to keep Torres "happy" so he would remain at the club but said that he wouldnt be "naive" and say that he couldnt rule out UTD bidding for him should they sell Rooney. He said that were that to happen he'd cross that bridge when he comes to it.
Well, well, well. First of all, its not about keeping players happy. Its about motivating players, supporting them and getting them to play well on the pitch. Its not about doing everything and anything to keep them happy: would Shankly have been worried whether his players felt they werent been sufficiently pandered to?
Secondly, Roy has actually given a glimmer of hope to his old chum SAF that theres a possibility of selling Torres to them lot. He should have said that a situation might arise whereby Liverpool would sell Torres that would only happen on Liverpool's terms and no transfer to UTD, Citeh or Chelsea could be contemplated. Obviously our hand could be forced should Torres want to leave but there's no indication thats on the cards at present and its incumbant upon the Liverpool manager to take a hard line on these things.
