I see you can say Reina would be a good leader, because usually are into sorts of these things in dressing room (When spain won the WC, he lead everything, the party, the banter, the spokesman of the team).

Put it this way, IMHO the two best 'leaders' we've had in the last 35 years were Emlyn and Souness.

For me leadership is the ability to motivate, lead by example and foremost have the respect of the changing room.

Gerrard is clearly a born leader, few would disagree - Liverpool supporter or not.

Whether he is the best leader we have is open to debate, possibly not, but it's close.

SG is a great player, but so was Rushie, Aldo and Jimmy Case all of whom had the respect of the changing room. It doesnt mean they have leadership qualities.

I've never been convinced he is Captian material. You could argue the team has changed so frequently over the last 5-6 years he has been the only constant, with Carra.

Is he (or was he) the best choice, well Hamann would have been a candidate, Sami of course (but was too quiet). Could be that we simply haven't had anyone good enough for a long time....

The thing that annoys me most about Roy is that he doesn't even seem to give a f.uck that we're so bad.  He finds it "Insulting" that his tactics have been questioned or that people said we were inferior to Everton.  (Which we were).
He was all smiles after the Derby defeat and refuses to believe that we're in a crisis.  He said he didnt give a monkeys whether we were 16th or 18th.  (Not sure how he feels bout 19th)
He was also critical of the protests.  He just doesn't get Liverpool Football Club.

Losing a couple of games at a club this big is a crisis!  Roy needs to start treating us like the big club that we are instead of treating us like Malmo FFS.

I personally think he is just amazed that he somehow got the job and now that he has it...he hasn't a clue what to do or how a big club are supposed to play.

I would be very surprised if we beat Blackburn.

He's also lost count of many times we've lost!

No for me Steven Gerrard stood out up and beyond all other players with captain credentials.

He epitomises what it means to be a captain, in the way he dictates games and drives on for success.

I can safely say he will always be regarded, by the majority, as one of our greatest captains.

For me Roy is coming across as totally arrogant. He refuses to accept that maybe ,  just maybe , football has moved on in the last 35 years and maybe  , just maybe , his methods need updating .

How Rafa got us to 7th last season , with this totally useless squad  , is nothing more than a miracle.  :;):

Perhaps he was a genius after all !!!  :) :)

Can we email the owners and petition to have Hodgson sacked? Let them know our frustrations. I can't stand it any longer. He's a total disgrace!

with all due respect to Carra I think he will make a lousy manager mate... maybe a good coach but not a good manager...

Ditto for Gerrad. In fact, I think SG is a lousy captain. I've said it before and mean it even more so now.
Than again, who would respond to any kind of metaphorical - or literal - kick up the ar$e from a captain if you're STILL gonna get more in one week than most make in 2-3 years ?
Captains should inspire and lead. He can't do that and neither can anyone else in the squad.

Sorry mate, when you have a player who comes in and saves you so many times, ala West Ham and Istanbul and many other games, means that this player is a strong leader on the field because he is one of the best there is. Gerrard is a born leader, he takes the team by the scruff of the neck and is our best player, brilliant captain sorry.

Nothing to do with being a leader, he's a talisman.

Leadership is Emlyn, , Thommo, Souness etc.. who let every player know what was expected, dominated the changing room, led the banter, let the partying - and suffered the gripes and complaints as a result.

Gerrard is too nice to be a leader, you need someone who combines skill, genuine leadership and a nasty streak.

Is correct, Reg. Was going to write the exact same thing.

Apart from Reina, Gerrard is the only world class player we have. Look how he captained England in Ferdinand's absence and what happened when Ferdinand came back. Now you question his ability as captain. Ffs try looking at what he has around him at Liverpool if you really want to know where the problem is. Gerrard is brilliant but he is not a fkg miracle worker. This forum is fickle beyond belief.

I think given the groundswell of opinion, they might as well sack him and get someone in who the club and fans can rally around. It really is looking like those who said the job was beyond him are going to be proven right in the end, it's just a bit of a shame we had to have all the abuse and total disrespect as well.

I would say at least there is one thing in that his only major signing, Mereiles, looks like a good player to me.

As I've said many times though, whoever manages the club needs to be given maximum backing from the fans, no more harking back to Benitez every five minutes or chanting Dalgish at games (if indeed it isn't Kenny to replace him obviously).

As things stand though, even if we were to win our next four or five and move into seventh or something, the fans aren't going to be convinced. Given that, he should go.

The "anti Gerrard" sentiment on here is something I stopped even trying to understand many moons ago mate. A blind man could see on Sunday that he was head and shoulders the best player on either team, but people still question whether or not he's a good enough inspirational leader.

He can't win really, he never could.

Thats irrelevant though.   Doesnt matter who was right or wrong the club is still failing.
Agree with the rest of your post though.  Fan unity would be nice.

i hope we get someone young and ambitious in if Roy goes.  Someone like Loew, Di Matteo or Leonardo or something.
