ROY HODGSON - Official Thread

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Zidane » Sun Oct 17, 2010 11:06 pm

Yeah I highly doubt NESV had anything to do with that appointment.  They really know nothing about football but they'll do research on people who do and have them fill the roles needed to make decisions such as choosing a manager.  Roy being appointed over Kenny at such a crucial time was a huge mistake imo, Kenny could have been the temporary boost the club needed and a much better stop gap since I don't believe he woulda been a long term choice.  Players would have loved to play for Kenny and I think he'd just be a much more effective manager than Roy.

Anyway, I'm emotionally drained I want things to get better already.. this stuff has left me numb. :(  Posting on the forums gets harder and harder as things continue to get worse.

Lost 16
GD of -6 and finished 12th

I dread giving Roy Hodgson any amount of money as he will waste it and it seems that the players are not responding to him. He needs to go and so do some of the players.

Think you're making too big a thing of this idea that 'all' the fans need to be behind the manager Mick. What gets said in here really isn't much of a reflection of the level of support he receives (or has received) at Anfield. The fans singing Dalglish's name on the Kop at the Blackpool game were doing that because we were/are in the relegation zone and losing at home to the most unexpected side in Premier League history. I don't think it had much to do with preconceptions or doubts that had existed about the manager from day one. I think a lot of us were impressed about how he handled himself when he joined the club, Gerrard and Torres both signed on, Joey Cole was brought in + Mereilles looks a cracking little player but at the moment we don't look like we can buy a goal, let alone a win. I don't wanna be in a situation where the manager has to go so early in the season, especially not when the ownership has finally been sorted but how long do you give him? The pressure will only build from here, fail to beat Blackburn next weekend (incidentally i'm going and i'm a total jonah when it comes to this fixture, 4 times, 4 draws!) and you can see this going the way it did for Martin Jol at Spurs a couple of years ago.

Must admit i've lost faith in his ability. And for a number of reasons:

- I don't think we are attacking enough. We're not getting bodies forward, this was most evident in the Blackpool game. We're only bombing forward at the end of games when (unfortunately) we are always chasing.

- We don't press the ball, we're playing too deep, we're allowing inferior (and superior) teams time on the ball.

- We allow too many crosses into the box. Johnson has been poor and Konchesky (I was dubious before we signed the lad), lets be honest, he's terrible.

- Substitutions have been awful. i was very criticalal of Rafa in this respect and I haven't seen any improvement from Hodgson. Today's game alone, what's the point of throwing Babel on for the last 10 minutes? Why leave it as late as he did to play Ngog? I'm guessing he doesn't have a lot of faith in several of the squad players but it's not a great excuse.

- I liked what I heard in the pre-season but Hodgson doesn't sound like a Liverpool manager to me. Afraid to put the boot into the players in public (they deserve it), too respectful of the opposition, seems to lack the confidence/quiet assurance or mild arrogance that many of our previous managers have possessed. He seems like a really nice guy who has found himself out of his depth.

It wasnt just them interested do you think they asked every party who they fancied?
I really dont think thats likely mick, what if they pulled out or we decided to go with another?
Plus they only met him this week.   :D

Sorry didnt see the other replys to your post mick, not to seem like a bandwagan jumper.

I know you like your "go the game" jibes :D, but there's more to a club being united than that. Anyway I can't be bothered to talk about it right now to tell the truth, so I'll leave it with you.

Well explain your point - you keep bringing it up and if it's been evident since before yanks arrived why haven't you mentioned it before and why didn't you say people should unite behind Rafa ?

Simply because I had totally lost all faith in him, I thought you knew that  ???

I'm not telling anybody to unite behind Roy, my problem is that people weren't prepared to give him a chance in the first place. What I'm saying is that whoever comes in to replace him if indeed someone does, NEEDS to know that the fan base is 100% behind him. They never were behind Roy, infact many were openly hostile towards him.

When are you and people like you going to realise that I don't give a feck about sides, fences, told you so's and all that old sh!t? We are in the relegation zone, if we continue to play like we are we will go down and the club needs to improve radically as we have lots of players who aren't good enough.

The FACT that those who were openly hostile towards Hodgson have so far been proven right and that those of us who said he would do a good job have so far been proven wrong is totally irrelevent to me. Smilarly, whether or not people think it's Benitez's fault we've got a poor squad, Hicks' fault, my fault or your fault I couldn't really give a feck.

I am simply saying that Liverpool only do well when nearly all the fans are in behind the manager, and the manager and owners aren't openly hating each other, and the players have a modicum of team spirit. We haven't had that IMHO for years.

all my posts supported Roy, I am glad benitez was sacked as he had 5 years, spent a fortune, and had a  krap squad that finished 7th.

However, roy has brought us into the relegation zone after a quarter of the season. that is his fault.

Torres is playing like a pussy, and besides SG no other outside player is top class (what does that say about rafa?), we are terrible.

Roy better man up quickly or fukk off.

Answer me this, genius: you say Benitez spent a fortune over five years on sh*t players, right? Now, seeing we got to all those lovely massive finals, won a few and should have won a few more, whilst still somehow competing at the top end of the league, surely it's either the players were either very good afterall and Rafa spent well, or Rafa spent poorly on bad players, but was so good as a manager, that he kept us performing and capable of winning major trophies with such dross. Which is it fella? You can't have one or the other, or are you just talking bollox by getting your money's worth out of that Sky Sports cable package? You sound like half the d*ckheads on it that peddled, and are still peddling, the anti-Benitez agenda.

I said he did very well In Europe but we finishe below everton in his first year, came 7th in his last and and were out of the league every year  (bar 1) by November (and that 1 year, he lost his head with that infamous "fact" speach)

You think his league record was good?

This place is like a Greek wedding meets HMV. I've never heard so many broken records.

Now that the mess with previous owners is over (at least for now), we can tackle our next pressing issue, which unfortunately is Roy. I never saw him as anything more than stopgap during the turbulent times. With things hopefully going to settle down and some decent money being made available in January, we need someone with more experience at the HIGHEST level and more footballing nous to be in charge. Perhaps this is the real reason why Kenny didn't take over back in August. He was being told to wait for this.....
