OK we will come 1st does that make me a superfan or fantasist?

btw 12th is being a realist on what I have seen and the manager we have

Saying we will come first is being ridiculous. Mind you, so is saying we will come 12th. If you want to have a bit of even money, I'll give you 11th and upwards for as much as you like.

That's the point, I don't actually think you think we will come 12th.

Ok I will be honest, I'm feeling sorry for myself in the situation we are in, but also add we won't do better than last seasons finish,

Im not expecting him to quote Shankly and declare his love for SOS but these are turbulent times and I do think he should show stronger leadership.

This has nothing to do with give him more time etc as I agree with that but I cannot agree with those quotes from the press conference.

How about " I fully understand the motives behind the protest but am confident that the fans will fully get behind the team etc etc"

A bit woolly but acknowledges the fans concerns.

I want the guy to succeed, I even like the guy and think he is a good manager but he has to realise and react to the situation at the club.  None of his making of course but he accepted the role as the breath of fresh air that we supposedly needed so switch on Roy please.

Has everyone missed this:

Steven Gerrard last night told Liverpool fans: “It’s no time to panic.”

Kopites are reeling from the club’s worst cup defeat since 1959 on top of their poor start to the Premier League.

Gerrard understands the fans’ deep frustrations and appealed to them to stick with the team.

“There’s a bit of doom and gloom about that goes with a few negative results,” said the Reds skipper.

“We’ve had them against Manchester United and going out against Northampton. But we’ve only had one seventh of the season, so it’s crazy to panic.

“The important thing is to stay together. Two or three good, positive results will change the mood, lifts the cloud and then everyone will be looking forward again.

“I don’t think you can judge your position in the league until you’ve played 10 or 12 games. Yeah, we have five points and have already lost a couple of games, but if we string three wins together in this league, you’re back in there for the European places.

“Let’s just take a deep breath and assess the situation 10 or 12 games in.”

Gerrard is looking beyond the Northampton defeat and claims he can see encouraging signs.

“Of course it’s been a tough week,” said the England star. “But I’m looking at the big picture. There has been a change of manager, a change of coaching staff, also physical as well as technical and it’s going to take time to get the new ideas and methods over to the lads.

“So the message from me to the Liverpool supporters and the people out there is just be patient a bit longer and I’m sure the picture will brighten up in the coming weeks.”

Captain admits players need to pull their finger out and asks supporters to give manager time shocker!!
Conveniently ignored by all the "pro-Reds manager as long as its not Roy" brigade.
So tell us. Is Gerrard full of sh'it, a liar, or just plain loopy?

how can a manager not know the age of their own players?  ???

Fair enough mate, you can't have evens on that though sorry :D

And we're all feeling sorry for ourselves mate, I certainly am. Nan asked me the other day what it would take for me to get "twitchy", and I'm twitchy already don't worry about that. There is a chance based upon what we've seen so far that Roy isn't up to it, it would be silly to deny that. Equally however, there is a chance that he is.

We absolutely will not be able to judge that I don't think until this season at least is over, but even for those who are into making a judgement quicker, we've got to give him until Christmas surely?

In the meantime, ramping up the pressure because he never walked in wearing his SOS lapel badge, or because he hasn't got his car re-sprayed red yet isn't helping anyone IMHO.

I cannot see what roy has said that is so wrong.

"The protest doesn't help but the situation is something I've had to live with since I arrived."

Its true. The situation being the owners are not welcome and the fans don't like them. That's the situation and so he is right.

"I, like anyone at Liverpool Football Club, would be very happy if the ownership situation got clarified, and in particular if we got a very good owner that can help us move forward."

So its clear he talking about the unrest caused by the position the club is in. No doubt about it though, it doesn't take a lot for the doubters to twist the words and make Roy out to be the bad guy.

Its what you would expect the captain to say and I agree with it, but there are other concerns and I fully expect our manager to represent us and support us

I wouldn't, and I'm glad Roy's not either. If he came out all "SOS" and "big bad owners", people would see through it straight away and see he was trying to worm his way into the fans affections.

He's not gone down that route, he's pulled no punches nor tried to deflect anything, and I like it.

I think your misunderstanding my point, Im not saying he should be appearing at SOS rallys or pointlessly pandering to supporters, for one he is still employed by the two Americans and until they move on that will continue to be the case so I understand him not taking potshots at them. What I was trying to convey was that once that happens the supporters of the club will still be standing strong and I dont think that the comments made today criticizing the actions of the supporters who are participating in these protests, that are universally supported by us fans who are wholey united in wanting the removal of the owners can be seen as anything but a mistake, especially in the wake of the onfield performances of the last seven days. I understand fully Mick that you are trying to be fully supportive of the coach but can we agree that this may not have been the right time to say what he said?

Yes even as a pro for Roy there's nothing in the Gerrard interview which provides stacks of comfort, so I won't be pretending there is. He could have said "if you were to ask the players, they are 100% behind the manager and are enjoying training much more since he came", he could have said "Roy is one of the best managers I've ever worked with", but he didn't, he said what he said.

Essentially what he is saying is that it's far too early to panic. In this sense at least, it is undeniable that he is right.

do you seriously think someone like Mourinho would be giving such a defeatist attitude to the media?

If he was at Liverpool, in the position Roy is in, then I would say yes. Mourinho is loved by his players as he looks after them and takes the pressure off with his attitude and statements. So yes, to take a bit of pressure off the players, he probably would.

Mate we can agree on most everything, but I don't think he HAS criticised the fans, that's just it. He's said situations like this don't make it any easier, and they don't.

What I like is that he's not trying to weadle his way in, he's not trying to wriggle. He's not a fool, he knows the fans are deeply unconvinced by him, but he's resisting what must be an incredible temptation to take the populist stance and just telling it like it is.

He's already said a few times that the club will be massively better off with new owners, but I noted during this interview that he said "but I don't want to hide behind that". THAT'S why I don't think he came fully out in support of any demonstration, because he wanted to resist the temptation to be trying to get into the fans good books. I like that.

The bit Ive highlighted is a superb point, he would have deflected away from the politics and given a rallying call for the supporters we would be having a totally different debate now and unless Roy has been caught totally off guard when he made his comments I dont think he'd have to radically think about saying something along the lines above. I'll say again I find his comments slightly worrying, if we really are five games in and the pressure is already starting to tell these next few months could turn from steadying the ship into going down wth it. I hope Ive misread the situation
