EDS BOSS: WE MUST LIVE WITH PROTESTS
    Posted 24/09/10 13:23EmailPrintSave

    Liverpool 2/5, Draw 10/3, Sunderland 15/2
A sit-in protest planned by Liverpool fans unhappy with owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett is just something else for the club to deal with, according to manager Roy Hodgson.

With the Americans' loan from the Royal Bank of Scotland due for refinancing or repayment next month and no sign of an imminent sale supporters are stepping up their campaign to oust the unpopular pair.

The latest plan is to get the crowd at Saturday's game against Sunderland to remain behind to demonstrate peacefully after the final whistle
"I, like anyone at Liverpool Football Club, would be very happy if the ownership situation got clarified, and in particular if we got a very good owner that can help us move forward," said Hodgson.

"It (the protest) doesn't help but is something I've had to live with since I came to the club.

"It is a major issue for a group of people who are very much anti the owners and the current people who are trying to solve the situation.

"It is often the case that when things are conspiring against you there is always an extra thing to come in and make it that little bit worse.

"It tests our mettle, our desire and strength. I am very confident the strength of this club, the strength of the playing staff and the people around me is more than enough for the club to come through this period.

"But while you are in that period it is unpleasant."

A statement from the Liverpool Supporters' Union and Spirit of Shankly group said: "We have given time to those in charge and listened to more empty promises.

"Now we are demanding results, and action will continue for as long as the situation remains unacceptable to us as fans of Liverpool Football Club"

Exactly the reason he was picked to be the manager

He was asked about Agger and his comments in the media. He said, I'll give media advice to the youngsters, but not a player knocking on for 30"

Agger is 25

:no
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

Unfortunate comments from Roy in the sense it is possible to misconstrue them, and as we see already those that wish to do so will jump all over it with relish. In actual fact if you look at what he's said, in terms of getting a result on Saturday I shouldn't think the demonstration if there is one will overly help the teams cause, and he's right. He doesn't say the demonstration shouldn't take place, he doesn't say he wants to keep the owners, he doesn't say the fans are wrong or any such similar thing, but he has left a little loophole there which it is possible to stretch to make it sound like he isn't on the side of those who want to get rid of the owners, and of course it'll get leapt upon.

Anyway once those that wish to do so have spent the rest of the afternoon sticking the boot in, hopefully we can get a result in the game because we need one.

I watched that Red, and I liked it. I think it's high time Roy started losing his rag, be it with Ferguson, with Babel, with players who don't put a shift in, reporters who ask ridiculous questions etc etc. Good managers don't let reporters take the p!ss out of them, and Roy shouldn't either. I actually think the reporter was alluding to us pressing the ball higher up, and in that sense I agree with him, but asking Roy to change his "approach" was ridiculous.

It was an eye opener when he said he took over on Jluy 1st, meaning he's not even been in the job 3 months. Food for thought for those who are stalking his every move.

It is a sorry state of affairs I must say when Roy has to watch every single word he says, every nuance of every sentence he utters, just so FANS OF OUR OWN CLUB don't get the opportunity to misconstrue them and paint him in a bad light.

It's like the Agger situation, he came out straight away and said that "the boy was distraught because he didn't say it in the way it was reported, we sorted it straight away", but because he makes a general comment about giving media advice to kids or to experienced players, people slate him for getting Aggers age wrong.

What next, Roy has a dodgy haircut?

Not in our fan base and our claim to be the best fans in the land they're not. The cracks have become chasms and any claims we can make in that direction are being destroyed day by day.

I notice you think we'll come 12th Rob, way to go mate.

Nice way to raise confidence.

Good to see it wasnt just me noticed that :D

I think Id have to say that if I was Roy Hodgson, after the rather disasterous start to the season hes had I would be going out of my way to get the supporters onside, and if I didnt personally agree wth the protests that are due tomorrow I would simply not bring them up rather than criticize them. I think the pressure is really starting to show on him already and I have to say thats a worry.

See this is exactly what I'm talking about . It's called perspective. I saw an interview with Ancellotti this week and he said we will lose matches this season and have difficult periods, he's right, they will.

Are you sriously suggesting the players are going to think "feck me, Roy is saying we'll lose again this season" and getting down in the dumps about it?

I wouldn't, and I'm glad Roy's not either. If he came out all "SOS" and "big bad owners", people would see through it straight away and see he was trying to worm his way into the fans affections.

He's not gone down that route, he's pulled no punches nor tried to deflect anything, and I like it.
