JAVIER MASCHERANO - Official Thread

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

We knew last season Mascherano wanted to leave  .... at least it was out in the open and presented with an honesty unlike some players signalling out of the blue they were joining another club on the same week they left ??? I thought Mascherano was an exceptional player who graced our midfield and at times controlled it with more than a semblance of authority .... its sad that such a World class player may never be associated again with the team or the class our midfield once insisted on ???

But then he comes up with this (guardian article), that insults the club that revived him. For me he went from Hero to Zero

If someone had told me this before the Yanks came I would have probably given Mascherano the same level of abuse ,but now I think the workings of the club have changed drastically and that lies and deceit have become common place .. ??? .. I think I will reserve judgement until he reveals these Lies that the manager and club supposedly fabricated ,and the real truth behind them ...
until then I will remember we have first and foremost lost a truly great midfielder that all the best  clubs in the world coveted .....???

No ability at creating chances, getting forward or doing anything other than breaking up the opposition attacks.

An over-rated footballer and an over-rated person. Barca are welcome to him he won't be missed at Anfield.

A player like him would never have got into the team of the mid late 80s under Fagen or Dalglish, which says it all about the type of players Benitez brought to Anfield. Good riddance to Mascherano and his former manager, who was actually the one that failed to deliver on the new contract or the move to Barca last summer yet apparently he saved his career.

That's an interesting thought Shabelle. How would Masch have faired had he been in the squad in '87-88?

There's no doubt football's changed since then - the holding midfielder role wasn't as important, and having one midfielder  dedicated to regaining possession and defensive duties wasn't required. I suppose he'd be in competition with Whelan, McMahon and Molby. Feck it, thats the best team I've ever seen so he probably wouldn't have got anywhere near it but it's an interesting thought. Masch in behind Barnes, Houghton, Beardsley and Rush, he'd probably have got bored because Liverpool would have all the possession anyway.  :D

Agreed, Didi was a better player.

But Masch at his role is in the top 5 in modern football.

Actually, know what, I'm delighted he's gone. I've disliked the shit since he got here. A stupid little fucker, that's incredibly over-rated by far too many people.

get lost, you little fucker.

One of the few people in Liverpool shirt I'm actually happy to see the back of.
