its sad that so many fans are now calling one of our most consistent and committed players of the last 3 seasons all the names under the sun when we knew that sooner or later he would be gone anyway.

Good shout

i agree with you on a lot of things but not on this one. in my view he decided that in the one game he knew he would be unable to focus and give 100% he would be doing us a disservice by playing. and as long as he gives that arrogant :censored: xavi a slap i'll forgive him everything.

he couldn't focus because he was thinking about the increased salary he's gonna get in barca...

come on now... a professional footballer, couldn't focus because he's got another club coming for him? I would understand it if a player went through some personal tragedy and couldn't focus... but not in Mascherano's case... He couldn't focus because he was selfish... that's it...

He got desperate. He wanted to leave last year because his family were depressed living in England. The move didn't materialise and he stayed, and was one of our best players in the second half of the season. Again this summer he made it clear he wanted to leave for his family, but nothing was happening so he got desperate and helped Barcelona play their game. We are all angry with the way things have happened but I do have a small degree of sympathy for him as this was more than a footballing thing for him.

Its a shame it got to this, the club have acted correctly in telling him that they will sell if a certain price comes along, but Barcelona have acted in their best interests. It's the world of football.

To be honest, everybody talks about how great a game he played against Arsenal.  Personally, I thought he wasn't playing with the heart we knew he could.  The whole game, he wasn't as involved as he should considering they were playing Arsenal.  maybe if we were playing Aston Villa or Fulham at the Cottage, that would be considered a good performance, but against Arsenal, it seemed to me the only time he ever got really involved and made good plays was when somebody on Arsenal embarrassed him.  I remember him standing int he middle of the field half-heartadly going for the ball, then an Arsenal player tricked him and it ticked him off.  That was when I finally saw the Masch I was expecting.

In Masch's defense though, he has been a great player for us and I could see we were missing him against WBA.  We needed that player that put all the pressure on them in the middle because they held way too much possession.

Also, why was he making so little?  Torres and Gerrard were making over 100k a week? Why was Masch only making, was it 30k a week? it seems extremely low for a player of his caliber.  He was better than any player on probably 12 premier league clubs and yet almost every club had at least one player making more than him.

Plus, when the club that is going to sell knows a deal is about to be done is common practice not to use the player and risk an injury.

There's no real point Hodgson used him if he's going to go next week.

Very dissapointed with Mascherano, but I value his football legacy at Liverpool, and I won't remember him as a bad thing for the club.

Yeah whatever, he won't even get in the first 11, just like at west ham.

I questioned Barcas motive in signing him and Fabregas as well.  I don't really see him breaking into the starting 11 on a consistent basis.

That's the way I feel about him to be honest. Brilliant player and under-rated as so many defensive midfielders are. Best midfield tackler in the world.

I'm sure you were saying that when Xabi left. We'll see, Busquets is top quality as well but I guarantee Xavi, Iniesta et al. would love Masch in behind them mopping everything up, as would the Barca defense, especially when Alves and Maxwell get caught in the wrong half when the opposition go on the counter attack.
