Yeah, but Insua fell through, and the savings on Benny's wages will only pay Cole's wages. Plus we have owners who are more interested in servicing the debt than bolstering the squad. It doesn't seem to add up....

Just a quick question...

Obviously we have to name a squad of up to 25 players aged 21 years or above, 8 of which have to be homegrown. We can then include an unlimited number of players under 21.
At the moment, as far as I can tell, we only have 6 (7 if we keep Insua) homegrown players 21 years or older, Gerrard, Carra, Johnson, Cole, Spearing and Darby.
Can we then just include say Kelly/Shelvey/Robinson etc to meet the quota? Or will we have to buy 1-2 more homegrown players aged 21 or above?

Why do we keep buying midfielders when we are clearly light up front? Who are we relying on to score goals when Torres isn't playing? N'Gog and Babel? Good grief. I think it would be better to play Joe Cole up front, given the amount of midfielders there are. Bellamy is there on a plate, but Roy doesn't seem interested in anyone. What's he playing at?

Despite people having a moan I actually think the first team squad is about the right size, we just need to make a few small changes:

- Sell Insua and bring in a left back
- Sell Mascherano and bring in a quality central midfielder
- Sell Babel and bring in a good striker
- Bring in a left winger to provide competition
- Hang onto Kuyt, if not, get a good replacement for the first team

The size of the squad is O.K we just have some players that need to move on so we can bring in replacements.

The problem is that we don't have the time to do all of that, you have to be able to buy without having to sell to get the players you want. After you buy what you want you recoup the money lost by selling the players you are replacing with the newly bought player. If you do things the other way around it becomes a constant struggle of trying to maximize value for players you want to sell all the while losing out to higher bidders on players you want while going on with negotiations and what not. You have to have a sizable kitty to be able to purchase players that you want, if you can't eventually you are buying players out of necessity and end up with people like Kochesky and Poulson, no disrespect to Poulson I think he seems a solid buy but at the moment we need something better than solid.

We haven't been in a position to buy before selling for a couple of years now . We can't afford those top players we require to really have a good go at trophies - we are just going to tread water until we get new owners who can afford to actually hand out a budget before having to sell players .
