God we agree for once ,i dont think theyll finish in the top four either . Spurs and City that is,
I think City have a good chance of getting 2nd this season or even win it.
They will need a
miracle to win it. They had a huge overhaul of the sq. They'll probably start off good, but will burn out towards the end of the season.
ruskiy doll! ruskiy doll!
Agree re Citeh, a group of better than average players does not constitute a team. It might work on a footy management game, but in reality Chelsea and the scum will have the upper hand as they have some top quality players and a TEAM. Citeh may gain an advantage in depth of squad, but last season they won just EIGHTEEN games and to win the league you need 27+ as I've said before. That's a feck of a big leap, to win 50% more games than you did in the previous season.
re their prospects of finishing fourth, I think they will be there with the usual suspects. We had a "shocking season" and yet won the same number of games as Citeh, says it all.
As for spudz, I think they need to wake up to the fact that they need quality CBs who can stay fit and play 38 games a season. They won't win the league while King, Dawson and Woodgate are their best CBs. They lost 10 league games last season, we had a "shocking season" and lost 11............................................
Difference between the top two and the rest is the top two a) can and have won 27+ games a season, both did last season, and b) don't draw or lose too many games. spudz may have overcome one or two demons last season, but they are still vulnerable against the top sides and some of the not so top sides. They've made that psychological step up into the top four for the first time, doesn't make them title contenders.
The record that no team has finished below 3rd in the Premiership and won the title the following season still stands, Chelsea did manage to make that exact leap from 3rd to Champions but noone since Leeds in 1991/92 has gone from 4th to Champions.
Blackburn : 4th in 92/93, 2nd in 93/94, Champions in 94/95
Chelsea : 4th in 02/03, 2nd in 03/04, Champions in 04/05
Arsenal : 3rd in 96/97, Champions in 97/98
Chelsea : 3rd in 08/09, Champions in 09/10
Man Utd : 3rd in 01/02, Champions in 02/03
Just picked out the three instances of a side going from 3rd to Champions, and Blackburn and Chelsea's first titles in the Premiership, only in the case of Blackburn, in case anyone thought that they "bought" the title and rose meteorically to the top.
