Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I remember when we playued macabi Haifa a few years back and only scraped through in the first leg. It derailed us then as we had to play a strong team in the second leg. Thakfully, this time I could play in the return and we'd still be OK. A job very professionally done.

Indeed, putting this tie to bed (pretty much anyway) on the first away leg means alot in terms of being able to focus on training and shaping the team towards what Roy wants them to be.

The young players who played well today will have some confidence as well and that can help boost the intensity for the rest of the squad in training.

Good stuff all around.

I won't celebrate Rafa going........ but I will be over the moon if Dalglish comes in. League within 2 years if he gets the job, AND YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT.

I said the same thing a couple of weeks ago. The world cup should have started a week or two earlier imo.

Congrats on your first win Roy! About time ngog stepped up as well. I know he can finish, it's the other parts of his game that was lacking...

Resign now, leave as the Liverpool manager with the best wins percentage and a 100% win record to boot. (tongue in cheek aimed at all those who kept defending Rafa with that meaningless comparison)

re N'Gog - I see he hasn't lost his knack from last season of putting goals past cr ap sides

Before I start hailing him as a tactical genious like some, ill reserve my judgement for our first 5 opening league games.

I know, the R.O.Y bandwagon* has hit mach 1 already. Lot of hot air in the media, the signing of Joe Cole and we win a match against a side from one of the weaker former Yugoslavian states and all of a sudden the messiah has arrived - he's not the messiah, he's a very naughty Woy!

*if you know or have heard of REO Speedwagon you may get that

I'd give him a bit more than five games, after a dozen or so it should be apparent if he is up to much and not just judged on results. He's thrown out a mix of experience and kids and getting a pat on the back for it, it's no never mind that the spine of the side had 130+ Premiership apps last season which is hardly the same as a bunch of kids with none

And for the record, against AK Graz in the previous messiah's first game in charge, Rafa's reds won 2-0 in Graz ................... Only Potter and Warnock of the players used were not established 1st teamers (ever), but then it was the Champions League (so much stronger)

Whether you think Roy is the messiah, or Roy is :censored:, whether you know for sure Roy is gonna succeed this season or whether you wanna wait and see for 100 games, we should be congratulating him on his first win for his first competitive game... after all he is our manager now and a winning start is always a good thing  :)

Exactly right.

He can only be judged on what he's done so far, and I think most will admit he's done well.

well said but certain toss pots would rather just take the p!ss out of his speech by calling him Woy all the time - yawn.

Well done Roy - first win of many I hope.  :buttrock

i think we need to give him a bit more than 5 league games.

In our first 5 games we've got Arsenal, Man city (away) and utd (away). Its quite feasible that we'll lose 3 out of 5.

In the corresponding fixtures last season we got 2 points from the four games (couldn't include West Brom, as they're newly promoted)

Last season we lost 2-1 to arsenal at home, lost 2-1 to utd away, drew 0-0 with city away, and drew 1-1 with birmingham away.

If we've got more than 5 points after our first 5 games, he'll be doing better than rafa did last season in the corresponding games.
