We agree  :O  :D

You guys are kidding right?

I wouldn't be so certain that Fernando is sticking around just yet, it sounds positive but I'm pretty sure playing in Europe (despite it being  UEFA) is still pretty important to him and any prospective players we might be looking to buy.

It's VERY important that the club make it through to the group stages of this competition.

I agree with Scott.

I think we need to set our priorities straight from the off this season. Number 1 let's get back into the top four that alone is going to be a dog fight. And have a decent run in the domestic cups. We have Arsenal on the opening day of the season with Man City straight up after that, we'll need our best players ready for that if we want to hit the ground running. As it stands, I think it will be a tall order 'hitting the ground running' this season because of the WC. So like everyone else we are hampered with getting our players fully rested, back up to speed and match fit for the opening game of the season.

Then throw in a Europa cup tie amongst our pre-season preparations and everything starts looking unsustainable on the fitness front; especially if we're going to throw in first teamers. Personally I'm glad Hodgson HAS to play the 'kids' because IMO this competition is causing havoc and strain on the squad when our priorities lie elsewhere. Infact, Hodgson should give the 'kids' a Europa cup run this season ensuring they get more European experience while our first team can focus on its priorities.
Football is a relatively simple game and Roy knows it ;)

England last played on 27th June, I think a MONTH is an adequate break. They also happen to be professional footballers capable of playing twice a week and sometimes as much as 4-5 games in 11-13 days. So they should be at the peak of physical fitness, if truly 'athletes' they should be able to cope with 90 mins proper exertion more than once a week

Agreed Owzat... and for example WTF did Babel do to have a long holiday now? He was on holiday at the World Cup! Lol

I'm not a fan of the Europa League and although I place very little importance on it, I think its a good opportunity to give playing time to the younger kids and fringe players.

Our best players can do without the extra games.  It's going to be tough enough to fight for fourth and play in the FA Cup and its poor relative, the Carling Cup.

I'm all in favour of the EL but only for the fringe and younger players.

Too many games is casuing burn-out - nuff is nuff.

League poistion has to be the priority, given the battles to regain 4th is now at least a 6-way tussle and there's always the 'surprise package'.. no not the Barcodes :D

Torres and co wanna be playing CL and will know league position to be the priority !

Every game in europe is important, it brings experience, money and prestige to the club.

Its been the same for the last 40 years so dont see why it should change now.

Yessss good post

Cant believe the amount of people that are just saying we should shrug off the Europa league!

Look at the amount of effort the players put into it last season, in the athletico second leg they never stopped running. If the players care about it then we should.

Woy seems a bit worried. I think he should stay calm and let the players that he picks do what they need to do tonight.

Im happy wih that team solid gk and defense (w actually have 2 betta full backs defensively in my opinion) speed and skill on the wings (been impressed with amoo)and enough flair from Aqua the middle 2 do a job. Would of preferred Shelvey 2 Spearing, not knockig Spearing but Shelveys got a brighter future 4 me thats all. Is the second game against these be4 the Arsenal? match is so would that mean we have 3 matches be4 then i reckon if our stars play in these games we should be ok, its the same 4 every other team aswell.

Cant comment on roy lookin stressed as i havent seen the press conference but i hink anyone would be given the situation hes in

I didn't watch or listen to tonights game but based on what people are saying it sounds like tonight's game was a useful run out then in terms of getting a good look at the young boys and the likes of Aquilani playing well.
