i think they would want more than 30 mill for sneijder. He had a great world cup and is playing in top form.

didn't do :censored: in the final though... Robben was better...

That was more to do with the tactics the dutch coach employed.  Total football it was not!!

I am actually not that dissapointed, I like Masch, but if we can spend the money on other players the balance of the team may be better. Rather than the defensive partnership we had last season, Gerrard back where he should be in the middle.

Roy has proven so far to be quite astute in the transfer market so I can see him using the funds from the sale of Mascherano on a few players who will improve the squad and the team. £25m and ta ta Mascherano. Add in the money from the recent sales of Riera and co and in comes Parker, Bellamy and Ireland.
Thank you very much.

I've just been reminded that Rafa valued Mascherano at £50m not so long ago.

Cheers Rafa lad. You can have him for that mate  :D

Im not that dissapointed either to be honest.

Masch is a great player defensivly, possibly has the best tackle in the world for a defensive mid. But when it comes to going forward he offers bugger all.

Very good player in the big games but in games vs stoke or bolton were we need to break teams down he is non existent.

Sami Kedhira is my prefered replacement. De Jong is a very similiar player to Mascherano and it looks like he's on his way out of City so maybe him.

well he is definitely one of the best, if not the best, at what he does - breaking up play. but he is also a limited player with a rather hot head who gets booked and talks too much for my liking. not a big loss. would be nice to see someone like Parker take his place.

Like many I don't give a f*ck if he leaves, Liverpool was there before him and Liverpool will be there after him, not a big loss.

I suppose in many ways this thread is ample testimony to the simplistic, even fickle mind of a football fan...Mascherano was the best in his position in the world, but players will come and go; does not make one any more or less mercenary than the other...Thats just the nature of the game.

The real question though is if we can replace him with someone at his level or close. The talk about Parker is frankly ignorance personified. The only high quality English DM is the injury prone Hargreaves...And pls do not tell me about Barry...
Floyd stepped left and threw the hook that caught Hatton flush under the chin. Finally, the British champ had arrived in that mythical place of which his fans speak: Hatton Wonderland.

Anyone who follows the global game properly will be hard put to name a better player in his role in the last 2 years...
