That next week a bid will be going in for Messi

No hecame across really well tbh , he knows he cant wipe out the doom and gloom that has overtaken the club and the fans rgarding them two overnight , Hopes the club is rid as soon as , and calls us fans the most knowlegable football fans who cant be kidded, wants us to get behind the team,

And reckons Iniesta is begging for a trail :eyebrow

 At the Iniesta and Messi bits. I think I read that interview on the internet somewhere. The one where goes on about "the fans won't be happy until we get new owners" and the like, and that they can't be kidded by one decent signing (Cole).

I liked him from day one. Check my previous posts. This guy knows his stuff, and this club prefers these type of managers. Rafa has a ego like mourinho. It didnt sit well with everyone. Houllier? well, he;s french!

We are knowledgable, we know what we want. Do things the Liverpool way. New owners next and i'm gonna need some really orrible fat bird to get me stonker down :D

One thing which i was worried about and i know now that i was wrong . I thought he was being brought in as a yes man . No chance of that up to now , he's said it plain and clear . Really made up with him so far regarding the off the pitch stuff . The on the pitch stuff we are yet to see , but he will get our support on that front regardless , so that's abit of a none issue . Very happy to eat humble pie so far .

I was happy he came (but TBF and being totally honest, I fairly obviously I was going to be pretty happy with a new manager pretty much whoever it was) but I must admit Roy's surprised me a bit. I did a bit of reading up on him just before he joined and yes his record is pretty impressive, yes he's got plenty of experience, yes he's a safe pair of hands and yes he's got an excellent reputation etc etc. The way he's surprised me though is in the way he's taken everything in his stride, the way he's conducted himself, the way he's handled things.

Many fans expressed grave doubts over whether he could make the quantum leap (and it is a quantum leap lets be fair) from Fulham to Liverpool, but he seems to me anyway to be taking it cooly in his stride. There's no wonder the big players are staying, because he is an extremely impressive character. I don't to be totally honest remember ever looking at him while he was at Fulham and being overtly impressed with the way he conducted himself, he just seemed like another manager to me. Since he's come though, it's almost like he was born to do the job the way he goes about things. If you didn't know, you'd think he had come from a really big club abroad rather than Fulham. They call it charisma, presence, carry and all that stuff. Roy has it, feck knows how but he does. He's one of those people who when he speaks you want to listen because he talks a bundle of sense. He was my second choice once Mourinho had gone behind Martin O Neill, but I wouldn't swap him now. Anybody who isn't pleasantly surprised by how he's getting on, and dare I say it at least a little bit impressed, is a hard man or woman to please. You can easily see why having interviewed a few people they gave Roy the job.

I got the impression that when we employed him some of our rival fans were laughing at us, they thought it was funny that we could get ONLY Roy Hodgson, they thought it was a sign of how far we've fallen. I've a strong feeling that they won't be laughing anymore, and not for a while to come either.

Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has sounded a note of caution to the club's supporters following the arrival of Joe Cole.

Cole formally agreed a four-year deal with the Reds on Wednesday with the transfer - after the player's release from Chelsea - heralded as a coup on Merseyside.

Milan Jovanovic has also arrived at Anfield in the summer and a further addition to Hodgson's squad should come in the form of Rangers defender Danny Wilson.

Levels of optimism around a side affected by a disappointing Premier League finish last season and off-the-field wrangles have since been raised, but Hodgson urged supporters to be realistic ahead of the new campaign.

"It's not going to be an overnight thing. Last season was a very disappointing season for the club in every respect, culminating in a popular manager (Rafa Benitez) leaving.

"You don't change doom and gloom or disenchantment with a signing or two. I would never want to dupe the Liverpool public by telling them all is rosy now because Joe Cole has signed.

"There's a lot more work to do, a lot more players are needed and we as a football team have got to make certain that when we take to the field the supporters will see there is something different and that we are making the biggest effort we can make.

"Then we can only hope they back us like they have always backed the club in the past."

Hodgson recognises he is working against a difficult backdrop in the hot-seat but he was eager to unite the club's followers behind him.

He went on: "We have to get a good atmosphere back into the club, the Liverpool atmosphere that I've known and seen and experienced - often to my cost - over the years.

"We have to get away from the feeling that everything's not right and the club is going downhill because that isn't the case at all."

Trying desperately
Controversial co-owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett remain in charge at Liverpool despite the club being up for sale and Hodgson is hopeful new investment will be forthcoming soon.

But in the preceding period, the 62-year-old wants to focus on football matters with Europa League qualifying and the start of the Premier League looming large.

Hodgson added: "We know the situation with the owners; the club is for sale and we are trying desperately for the right people to come in and buy the club.

"In the meantime we are trying our level best to do what we can out here on the training field and on the field of play to get results.

"I can only hope that the people who watch us are aware of the situation, that they have their feet on the ground like we've got our feet on the ground and they give us credit if we deserve any for the efforts we make on the field."

Saw that interview Nan posted (basically whats written above).  He speaks very well. He knows whats required, he's tuned in to the supporters as well as the players. He certainly seems to have his head screwed on right so kudos to the man.

He's handled himself really well so far, I'm chuffed with how things are going

I remember S@int saying we needed a man who could do more with less and we may have found that man
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

bigmick wrote:Something that impresses me is the reaction of people like Igor and Redbeergoggles (there are many others but I've had a few and they're the ones which spring to mind) to the new manager. It's fair to say they were unimpressed by his appointment, but they have looked at what he has done since he came, listened to what he has said, and they have taken him on board. Doesn't mean they have  accepted him as one of their own, doesn't mean they think he's the second coming, but they have judged him with an open mind. Despite the fact that some of their reactions to his most recent utterings may seem contradictory, they don't give a sh!t about that. They ultimately only give a sh!t about the football club, and they are now prepared to beleive that perhaps, the appointment of Roy may not actually be a bad idea.

I hated the preaching when I was a disbeliever towards the previous manager, but I have to say their acceptance of the changing of the tide, their willingness to get behind a regime that perhaps wasn't their first choice, is better than mine was. Perhaps we really have got the best fans in the World after all.

Why Thank you Michael for that magnanimous gesture it almost leaves me regretting my response in the Riera thread .... almost but not quite ???  Let me first explain why I feel  Roy Hodgson is a breath of fresh air .....Its simply  because he doesn't deserve our grudging respect implicitly  because his position as Liverpool manager declares it ... He deserves our utmost respect because in his words and actions he has proved himself a Gentleman and a Scholar of Football and somebody well versed in the Liverpool way
So far so good now back to my little retort in the Riera thread ... I don't feel I was overly abusive towards you albeit from the carry on theme ... I was simply impressing on you the importance of the fight we insist on carrying on to hopefully rid us of the current regime ,you see I have no reservations whatsoever about posters piling aboard the Happy Bus but if they could just proffer a tad more respect for the fans who battle religiously on a day to day basis   to oust these b@stards by attending rallies and marches and in no small part dedicate a large part of our interest in this ... surely you can understand this Big Fella because believe me  I would gladly take a seat aboard that happy bus of yours mate .... when conditions allow it ... I said to a poster last night that the price rise in the tickets is indicative of the Club slowly drawing the curtains on the common working man who has been  the life's blood of this club for countless years ....

This one?

Quote (bigmick @ July 20 2010,18:01)
I wouldn't sell Riera for 4 million quid and I think this is a mistake. That said, even though Roy gets all the credit for doing the deal for Cole and getting good money for Benayoun and Insua, this isn't his fault it's all down to fecking Purslow  .

Who needs Parry  .

Quote Redbeergoggles: Do you know what I am 100% behind the present manager ... but ffs please don't start extolling the virtues of that :censored: Purslow ... some people will trust him others :censored:  wont ....can we leave it at that .... because this" Purslow isn't that bad really club" is really starting to seriously twist my tit ..... so for the sake of the people who know what this tw@t is actually about can we just stop the sarcasm and pointed barbs ... I honestly hope that one day I can distance myself from what's happening on my own doorstep ...but while my veins carry my Liverpool blood to my Red heart  I guess that's just not going to happen  .....
This in truth is what divides this forum ... We have recently had great news that has lifted the spirits of every Liverpool fan yet you constantly champion the cause of every controversial character them two :censored: employ .... seriously if you honestly want the forum to unite in football debate and stop the bitter asides and juvenile squabbles cease with the condescending innuendo ... your posts are starting to mirror a carry on film
Seriously Michael if you have any affinity with the fans who are watching this happen on a daily basis from close proximity then cease exonerating the two sly devious tw@ts who are currently pulling all the strings because your little snipes are seriously  undermining all the meetings and rallies we attend and the importance of purging this   club of the pestilence that rages within ......................... sick of it now Mick had the proverbial belly full: Quote.

Ah don't worry about it Red, I was having a laugh and didn't make it very clear (or very funny probably). I was just pointing out that as a "Pro" as far as Roy is concerned, if and when he fecks it up I'm just going to blame it on the owners. If Cole turns out to be sh!t, I'm going to blame it on Purslow and say Roy never wanted to sign him. If we get in a bad patch, I'm going to blame it on tw!t and tw@t. If on the other hand we do quite well, I'm going to declare Roy a genius. It's a win win!!! :D

The owners are c...s though mate, Purslow and the Chelsea bloke no doubt are too. My post was nothing to do with the owners but was just poking a light hearted bit of fun at fans who defended the previous manager in such a way for years. I'm actually looking forward to if things do go pear shaped and Benny starts moaning, I've my "but it's the owners" retorts all waiting and ready to go  :D .

Fair enough Mick ..needless to say I am delighted with Hodgsons demeanour and the way he conducts himself ... so save me a seat on that bus ... oh fuck it if we get rid of these tw@ts then put me on the rota for driving the thing :D
