It's besides the point in many ways though as I was making a general comment and that is that plenty of top flight clubs are run by financiers, accountants and businessmen; that if the manager's job becomes vacant at their club, they ultimately have to do the appointing (they can consult you see, as was the case with Kenny who was on the interview panel). You don't need to have a background in the game to make the right managerial appointment - did Al Fayed ever play for Scunthorpe? No. He's a businessman with no experience of playing or managing who knows - like many of us do - that Martin Jol would be a shrewd appointment.

It's all speculation and opinions mate - I expect a lot of chairmen thou are at least a little bit knowledgable and know a little - Purslow was brought into the club to find us money - it seems now he is running the club and I don't like it one single bit .

Again, it doesn't even matter if Kenny thinks Hodgson is a bad appointment (though I am personally prepared to trust his word when he says he finds it a favourable appointment), because a background in finance/business/accounting precludes nobody from having a clue about anything else - football, pianos, feng shui, ANYTHING, because people can learn.

So do you trust Purslows judgement when it comes to football matters ? Do you believe the choices he is making is on a financial basis or football basis

I think some people are getting very paranoid about Purslow, the problem is we are now used to a manager like Rafa moaning like Fu%k in public and wanting total control over everything where Hodgeson is acting in a much more proffesional manner discussing transfers with the board and the leaving the money men to do their thing whilst he concentrates on the training camp, insted of having to control everything. I was initially very unsure about Roy Hodgeson, but I am really warming to him, he seems very level headed and much more like a Liverpool manager of old. If he pulls off the Joe Cole transfer, keeps Gerrard and Torres, signs a good left back, and a back up striker think we might be more competative than people think. A lot of ifs I know but from total despair I am beginning to think this guy might actually be very good for us.

You could worry about just about everybody involved in the running of our club but from some its now getting a bit hysterical that all. Everything sems to be dragged back to owners or Purslow, I would just prefer to concentrate on Roy the tactics and the players.

As far as i can tell, the manager tells Purslow to discuss the transfer fee or contract with someone and lets him get on with his job... The manager might even tell him how high to go in terms of wages, signing fees and such, but end of the day I dont think its what managers do best, thus the appointment of someone whos better at dealing with such things.
Nothing i've read or heard has indicated that Purslow is taking matters into his own hands by offering contracts or making offers to players the manager doesnt want. Which is what many seem to be suggesting...

The fact that there are actual posters on here willing to defend Purslow and Co is Fucking ridiculous ... The fact they are the same posters who ridiculed and directed derogatory comments on an annoyingly regular basis towards Benitez throughout his tenure is less so .....

The way we are operating is how most clubs do their business where by a manager provides a list of targets and then the chairman/managing director attempts to bring those people in. Benitez did not like this way of doing things so was always at odds with his managers but Hodgson appears to have no problem with it. Im sure both Purslow and Hodgson have agreed to go about things this way and it ensures both roles are clear cut and defined rather than crossing over. Its how we always worked to be honest, even way back in the day with John Smith and Peter Robinson working in tandem on recruitment for Paisley and that so theres no problem.

We are not arguing that though . WHAT WE ARE SAYING .Is that purslow has his own list of players to buy and sell and Roy has no input in this . Take alook at the quotes from Roy . What is worrying us is that purslow is going ahead with it with or wthout Roy's consent . This is wrong , yes.
