Are we  ??? In what sense exactly  ???

Well, Roy Hodgson joining us obviously means that we are now Fulham ya see.

It all makes perfect sense

I think it was a little less simplistic than that, the doom and gloom merchants feeling we are on the decline and 7th may be our new level and that reflected in the choice of manager.

Lucas is just not good enough on so many levels.

He is just garbage as a holder cause he can't tackle even if his life depended on it and his challenges are clumsy which leaves him into penalty troubles.

I watched many games last season and his tracking back after losing the ball is atroucious, He is slow as **** with and without the ball jogging around leisurely.

His offensive contribution is just that, "offensive" for a player that played as many games as he did and having masch beside him.
Just a very mediocre player and for 7-8 million he should be out quicker than you can say sold.

Im not so sure about that Mick... Lucas on his own as a holer probably means we'll yet again need to play 3 down the middle to break up play with both him and Gerrard having questionable positioning defensively and with Gerrard giving the ball away as often as he does...

Another concern i have is the number of fouls Lucas gives away... With him playing closer to the back4 (and hence the penalty box), such set pieces could really do some damage especially with us being vulnerable in that particular department in recent times...

As some have mentioned im not too sure about his tackling, and with his lack of pace you'd expect his awareness and how well he reads the game to be what compensates (Carrick, Barry, etc) .. To me he lacks in both departments as well..

As far as im concerned the only role he can be useful in is as a box-to-box midfielder... Given the freedom to move to space i think he can do a job for us if played alongside a sitting man.. He has the ability to get to good attacking positions when off the ball and his simple passing could come in handy higher up...  Having said that, with players like Aquilani and Gerrard already at the club and with them both being lightyears better than he ever will be in that department, the only solutions i can see are for him to either be sold and replaced with a proper defensive midfielder, or to be sat on the bench as a backup option to one of our midfield positions..

Not good enough to start for me though..

Ace he's probably not good enough to start for me either, but I just think selling him AND Masherano is just too disruptive. Lucas is no World beater, but he can kind of do a job and for the fee we'd likely get for him, there's no certainty we'd get someone in who's better. That is unless we went down the experienced campaigner route with someone like a Scott Parker (who is miles better IMHO). I don't know what people on here would make of it though if we signed someone English and his age off of West Ham for a couple of mill. It would probably signal to some that we were heading for the Championship, lets just keep Lucas it's less hassle.

 And i was thinking someone like Gilberto Silva or Marcos Senna or Marques would have been good calls !
To be honest i dont think we'd be getting much if we sold him now either so it might make sense to keep him at the club especially if Mascherano is sold...
Have no doubt though that our central midfield problems are going to be a major headache for Roy and hopefully he gets the whole thing sorted out before the season starts ...

Only if Masch goes do we need to a tiny bit more careful on this one. I otherwise wouldn't hesitate to get rid if an offer in the region of £4m were forthcoming. I suspect quite a few others who are currently hedging their bets would feel the same.

I wouldn't mind going for somenoe like Cattermole or even Muamba. Lasanna Diarra would be worth a punt too, and we know he can play here as he done well for Portsmouth.

Either he's good enough for Liverpool or not, we shouldnt be taking any 'punts', we dont have the funds.

He's good enough. But whether Real would sell him on the cheap is another thing. I heard he could be going back to Arsenal too.

I think a lot of posters are going to be disappointed.... I suspect Roy will see exactly the same attributes Lucas brings to the game as did his predecessor ....

According to Lucas he had a good season, measured in terms of what I don't know, but I think you won't get too much objectivity towards him as some just have too much of a hate on.

Saw this either on BBC teletext or s*y teletext

Never know, he might be LB next season!  :D
