I don't know if it's deserved or not because I don't know who else they've got. What I would say, is that if Lucas is in the best 22 they've got, then Brazillian football is in the doldrums and no mistake. He wouldn't get near the England squad for instance, so god only knows whats happened to their midfielders.

exactly, the new Brazilian managers just trying to make a statement by dropping the big names, god help them if they think they will ever win anything with Lucas in central midfield.

TERRIBLE news if they decide to start him !

Now the whole world gets to see what a limited player he is and any sale value he had goes out the window :D

In all seriousness though, hope he does well... The squad they picked is something of a 'B' team for Brazil .. It could be his big chance to make an impact because i dont think he'll be featuring as much for us next season..

Now that we have virtually lost The   Little Chief ... Lucas will have a major role to play in the midfield set up replicating the role Mascherano used to perfect ... I think this season we will see an even better player than last season in Lucas ,one capable of closing down and compressing opponents play in much the same vein as Mascherano ..... by all accounts Hodgson realises the fact he was a more than  useful player last season as did the majority of Liverpool fans ...... those same fans who voted him Young player of the Year it would seem

I disagree with you here mate..... I know many have serious doubts about this lad's ability but I have always rated him. I just feel that he's been utilized in a manner that ill suits him in the past.

If we set up correctly and he's given a clear role that plays up his gifts, the lad will shine IMO.

Like most brazillians ('cept Dunga), Lucas needs a little freedom to do his thing instead of over constraining his movement and role.

What did everyone think of him being stand-in captain ahead of Agger or Skrtel?

Always liked Lucas ,especially after last seaon i think his attitudes is spot on, when every other fans callin him every name under the sun at the age of 21 he kepts givin 100% and sticks at it curbing his natural game 2 do a job 4 his manager and the team (Babel could learn alot form him) Hell never grab the headlines but he could play a vital role in the future of the club if he continues 2 progress like he did last season. Hes a tidy little passer (dont know where all this he never passes forward rubbish comes from) with a good touch and he proved in Brasil he knows where the net is, i think thatll come with confidence. When he gets forward he reminds me abit of Barmby with some of his clever balls over the defense. I understand every1 has thier opinion but at the very least the lad desrves more respect then he gets.

Better than Melo, thats for sure. It's funny how all these managers rate him, but the "knowledgeable" fans think he's :censored:.

He is not really a kid though is he? At 23.5 years he is maturing and showing signs of being a useful DM. I hope that Roy gives him more freedom to attack as I feel this is a part of his game that Benitez never utilised or developed.

I think he was our most consistant player last year and was definately our most improved player.  I think he will get games this year and if he improves again this year he may well become a useful member of the squad.

I think this year it may be a bit tougher for him as I really believe that Gerrard will move back into CM with Joe Cole playing in the hole, so does that mean we will play Lucas or Aquilani?
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

I'll be surprised personally if Roy plays him on a regular basis, I honestly will.
Football is a relatively simple game and Roy knows it ;)
