This season he has been very poor and average is the best he can ever hope for.

He never tackles, has no pace, tries a through ball every 10th game, poor in the air, very poor defensivly and makes clumsy challenges. You can not loose the ball and just jog back making no attempt to win back the ball.

He can't have the excuse of being too young either. He is 23 years old and has got something like 2 goals and 2 assists in 45 games.

Like Insua and Ngog, sometimes you just have to accept that
some players will never be good enough.

And yet Rafa prefers him to Aquilani...
???

Actually, I would say no. He may prefere Lucas holding, but I doubt he'd tell you that Lucas has more ability than him. You never know: a couple of signings and a change in system could see Lucas drop to the bench for next season in more games. Aquinali could be like a new signing. Oh, wait....

Lucas isn't a holding player though. Maybe once, just once, Rafa will buy a player and not completely destroy his career by playig him in the completely wrong position

He is a holding mid, despite what Stan Collymore might tell us all. And I don't see who Benitez has bought (bar Dirk Kuyt) who's position he has altered and wrecked their career with. In fact, I wouldn't even say that it's that unusual for a striker to be put on either wing.

Seriously? Babel as well, and there have been others, and Lucas for his country plays a lot more attacking

Lucas is neat , he's tidy , erm ....... I'm hard pressed to say anything else apart from he's also very lightweight , gets brushed off the ball and decked by any opposing player that puts in a serious challenge and the majority of his own tackles seem to result in a free kick for the opposition. Offers little in terms of goal threat or creativity.

Two years later ............. Lucas has had a haircut and put on a bit of weight, otherwise "the song remains the same"

I'm sorry to say that two things spring to mind if match goers have voted Lucas young player of our season. Firstly and formostly, it indicates that we really haven't got any decent young players. If Lucas is the best we've got, the cupboard is as bare as my erse will be in Ely's window if we win the title next season.

Secondly, and I expect this to court a bit of controversy, it confirms once again that the fact that you watch the game from 20 yards away as opposed to hundreds and thousands of miles doesn't mean you are any more likely to have a clue. I've had a "go the game" merchants telling me that Martin Skyrtel was our player of the year last season and all sorts of strange things, so I don't think by any means the fact that someone goes regularly gives them some kind of insight which sets them apart.

The best two young players we have based on this seasons performances are Insua who comes an honourable second to N'Gog. Yes I know that neither are particularly fantastic, but both are OK. Lucas is purely simply and utterly not good enough, on no level whatsoever. He wouldn't get a game at any other team in the top seven. It courts controversy whenever you point it out, so much so that I can't really be bothered discussing it anymore, but since the subject crops up there it is. That is the case whether you are sitting in row P of the centenary, on the Kop or in the battered old chair in your front room. He isn't good enough, and until we find someone who is we will perenially struggle to achieve anywhere near our potential.

I apologise if I made the suggestion it was only people who frequent the match that proffered a view ,I am actually led to believe it was a wide spectrum of fans both armchair battered or not ,or those that prefer Live entertainment which I might hastily add there hasn't been much off the latter of late ...Honk Honk  (Thought I would introduce that  before I am inundated with budding Vaudeville comedians ) :D
or various forms of what disguises itself as sarcasm which does neither side any favours ???

Hmm, what about Babel? He's not a striker. That's just pure myth and I don't understand where people get the idea from that he is. he's been given dozen chances up top and failed. N'Gog has done better up there on his own  and that's the truth of it. He plays out wide for Holland, same as Kuyt. Lucas in the under 21's play a different system, and it's not surprising that he was more attacking seeing that it is Brazil he's playing for in one off game internationals. Big difference. Done and dusted debate I think..

i was just checking the wikipedia entrya on lucas, because i'm sure he was playing for 'box to box' or an attacking midfield role with gremio as well before he came to us. i don't think the debate is done and dusted at all, to be honest.

anyway, i didn't get too far with my research because i found this in wikipedia...

"Lucas remained with Gremio until the end of their 2007 Copa Libertadores campaign. They made it to the final where they met Boca Juniors. However, Lucas had a niggling injury, causing him to start the first leg on the bench. With Gremio 1–0 down, Sandro Goiano was sent off. Lucas was brought on to help shore up the midfield, but to no avail as Gremio lost 3–0. Lucas was back in the starting line-up for the second leg, but Gremio were again defeated, this time 2–0.he then went to liverpool after the advice of his coach philip rooney and became the best player in the world and fingered rafa benitez and pepe reine till thier árse bled in 2008. dean hennesy then took his spot in the squad after his stint in rehab for alcohalism."

If you think its to pass forward, go on runs, hit 10 to 60 yard balls, do box to box, stamp his authority, inspire others or create and score goals then hes not.

How can he run around alot and stroll around ?

Do you really need me to explain?

OK
"run lots" means he runs around much of the time. Usually with not much purpose. It looks as if hes busy and having an effect on the game.
"strolls around" means that other times during a match he wanders aimlessly while play is going on around him. He is not doing much but observing.
No contradiction
If I would have said: "he constantly runs all game" and then said "he strolls around through the game" then you would have had a point.
But I didnt so you havent
