I agree, split second, do you own up or do you take the goal, 99/100 players take the goal so he shouldn't be castigated for it.

Yep. Watching the replay I'm convinced Suarez wasn't expecting anything but the ref's whistle for handball when he kicked that ball.

Well... he didn't deliberately play with his hand, and since the ref didn't blow the whistle what else was there for him to do? It's the ref's fault not Suarez's
