Certainly agree with sentiment not to risk star players on a pitch like that.

We should have more then enough  depth in the squad to deal with a non league side and be able to give Suarez a rest before his tiring  handshaking duties following week

Nice to have wonderful cup competition back on Foxtel down under even if I do have to put up with the ESPN pundits

I was in the Mansfield area over Xmas and whilst there was a lot if rain the last week of so has not been anywhere near the levels if rain in December. I'd be very surprised if it didn't go ahead.

As for the pitch quality, it's never going to be a game for a slick passing side. However a bad quality wet pitch is no risk to our players. You will always get less injuries on wet pitches that dry putches because there is more give in the turf to absorb impact. The downside of a wet pitch is it is hard work to run on and will fatigue a side more.

talking to a Mansfield fan on a forum, they say its not great but the game should be safe as long as theres no rain from now to kick off, they said its very soft but the club have been working as hard as they can to get it ready but most of it was down to if they had rain as walking on it seemed to just make the problem worse during the week.

Mansfield are a very direct team so providing we stand up to the ball being pumped in
the long throw we should be ok.

In truth we should dominate posession and that should be enough to get through.

looking at the pitch on the news i think the best bet is to keet the ball in the air, passing is not going to be the best idea.
its not the worse i have seen.

Pure class from Mansfield:

"It's not everyday that Mansfield Town get to play host to Liverpool so, with the Reds en route to Field Mill for the FA Cup third round today, the Blue Square Bet Premier side have taken their rare opportunity to pay tribute to the 96 people who tragically lost their lives as a result of the Hillsborough stadium disaster.

The Stags have put the names of the 96 victims on 96 seats at the 7,475-capacity stadium - seats which will be left purposefully empty during this afternoon's FA Cup tie and used to separate the home and away support...

Mansfield's operations director, Paul Broughton, explained the Stags' gesture via the club's official website:

“We wanted to do something in light of what has happened this year in terms of Hillsborough and as it’s been so long since the two sides met.

“One of our fans suggested we place a name on each of the empty seats in the segregation section of the stadium. The idea sent shivers down my spine. It was an amazing idea.”

A doff of the cap is definitely due."

Good on him for putting faith in youth. Hope there is a strong bench!
