Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Some time has passed since the newcastle game but this has been bugging me. Why was Owen booed on his anfield return?
Football is a simple game, all you have to do is pass the ball to a player in a red shirt.

He tried to do a McManaman i.e. shaft us.

I think though the booing was also a result of us not having signed anyone
capable of filling his boots.

Until last Friday.  :eyebrow

He's a traitor.
I know some people will say "He wanted to further his career...we didn't look like we'd be in contention for anything, etc", but if I played for LFC, you wouldn't prise me away with a crowbar.
I'd bite yer knackers off to stay.

It did appear as though he was 'over' liverpool at the time of his departure, and as someone said on another thread, he was sick of playing with a team over lower class players (with notable exceptions stevie, carra, hyppia, henchoz)
For all he's done for us though, he didn't deserve booing
I suppose going to any other English club would have drawn some resentment and its just my hope that he had nothing to do with his transfer price - maybe he'll do a god and come back to where the real glory is - playing in a red shirt!

I thought it was a disgrace that h was booed.  Michael Owen was kept Liverpool from slipping into being a mid table team virtually single handed whilst Houliier was in charge.

He beat Arsenal in the FA cup final

People have very short memories... and lets be honest here Fwoeler is a great player... but I 'd rather have signed Owen.. infact signed them both!!!
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

Maybe, being booed was a little harsh,
but then he did say in an interview he left Liverpool to play for the best club in the world and to win trophies, which didn't happen, which may have disgruntled a lot of people, also making a statement that he was signing a extension on his contract and then 2 days later running off to Real Madrid, and that he did have the chance to come back and some people feel that if he had held real madrid to ransom as they did to us when Signing Owen then they would have had to deal with us, the fact he didn't and signed for a club that lets face it by the look on his face showed he didn't really want to sign for, no matter what was said in the press conference, I am a great admirer of Owen for what he did for the club and a player but think if he takes anymore advice from his agents he will next be signing for Runcorn, come micheal get a grip.

Because he sh!t on us from a very great height when we was indeed, all ready covered in sh!te, then when the sh!t hit the fan at madrid and he indeed got covered in sh!t himself, the sh!t he left on Merseyside didnt seem so sh!tty as it was coated in a silver trophy known as the European Cup.

If he was a supporter and not a player we would be known as a gloryhunter and look where gloryhunters end up, playing for a mediocre team with a mediocre manager and mediocre players, Owen has no one to blame but himself, the booing was a tad harsh but he brought it on himself and it was the fans letting him know what a mistake he had made on 2 occasions.

i have been enlightened somewhat - i wasn't aware of him "looking forward to scoring against us" and if thats the case it doesn't sound to good for wee mikey. i do remember now though that he wanted to "win trophies" and that kind of backfired.
I doubt he'll get anyhting like the reception God will get if he does decide to try to return

Is it because he is a horrible little welsh tw.at who not only turned down the chance to sign for the club that we love, not once but twice, after stringing everyone of us loyal fans along saying that he was going to sign for us, time after time after time, but he insulted us upon leaving by saying he was going to win things a "the biggest club in the world" and after winning the sum total of fuc.k all decided to take the money and run to a joke of a club like Newcastle and insult their fans by reassuring hte press "I'll be fit for England" despite the fact that he is being paid £120K a week by them and despite the fact that 25,000 of them turned out to shout his name when he signed ?
