Actually our exit last night wasn't totally unexpected. From the moment we drew Benfica I had said that I wasn't having good feelings about it - and its not a statement in hindsight. We always proceed when not expected to, and fail when not expected to.

We actually don't need to buy strikers - probably a comment which most here disagree. When Rafa can do in the inter-season period of 3 months (or whatever time he has with the strikers pre and post WC) is to give them tailored programs to accentuate their respective strengths. Our strikers have the raw ability to be top class and it really depends on the manager now to make these talents show.

Make Crouch hard 500 balls a day to improve his heading technique, that's what we bought him for, not for pace nor shooting outside the box.

Make Cisse dribble inbetween little cones non-stop to improve his ball control. Make him trap long balls. Make he do intensive shooting practices. Henry was just like Cisse when he arrived at Arsenal - i.e. just a pacey 'winger'. But look at how Wenger nurtured him.

Turn Fowler into a vegetarian so that he would lose some weight. Make him run 20km a day to put some muscles in his legs and improve his stamina.

and.

Convince Morientes to move to Monaco.

errr........gungod, fowler scored last night, but was disallowed

you cant score if you aint got the ball

the other strikers have had plenty of the ball and done nothing mate, whereas fowler has had the ball 5 or 6 times and scored 3 times (but disallowed though), nonetheless, hes done more

My concern was how off form Gerrard looked. I have never seen stevie so lethargic and sloppy with his passing. No enthusiasm. He needs a rest, I think burnout could be a real issue.

To be honest as soon as I saw Traore at CB I knew something bad was gunna happen. I really think Rafa needs to have a clear out in the summer, although I don't think Morientes will be included in the clear out. I think Traore and Cisse will be definite leavers.

I know all of you hate me, am Im not gonna have a wild Rant, this is the new Hustler, a more composed response.

But I hate to say I told you so. Read my post on Page two of "champions of Europe V Benfica"  I said we needed to score in the first 25 mins. PLease check my post out.

What happens, we had about 5 very good chances when we were on top, and Crouch misses a sitter! and we fluffed them all again.

then what happens Carra fluffs it, goes to 3 foot 2 ins, Samoa, and he buries it in the top corner, first chance. showed our strikers how to score, and showed them up.

not being funny, but we didnt look like scoring one after that, never mind three.

I have to blame Rafa I'm sorry, he is s good mananger, but why spend 14m for CIsse, then play him on the Wing ?? he's not a winger. PLaying Moro when he obviously cant score, and not playing Hamann when he's the best retainer of the ball the game has ever seen!

Carra should stop going forward for corners, he hit the post, fluffed a sitter from a corner first half, then skyed a free header over the bar, second half. bad game for Carra by me. Stop getting forward jamie please. 2 out of 10 tonight.

It's crucial you take your chances in the CL, and Benfica deserved to go through, as the only two chances they had were buried with conviction in our net!

Not being funny, but our Premiership form finally caught up with us. Our "one goal a season " strikers are just a joke if you ask me, and it doesnt stop there!

Crouch, I cannot understand why Rafa bought him from RELAGATED SOUTHAMPTON, then coming into the champions league!.....He's way out of his depth and is Unproven. Ok he scores the odd goal, but please! he's out of his league. He's slow to get to the ball and ponderous.

Morientes.....is spent! it's so obvious and he has no strength.
he should be sent to the reserves for the rest of the season.

Cisse...offers nothing.. what a waste of cash, he's a striker, and Rafa plays him on the wing! what on earth for?

Fowler...sentiment aside, he is spent!

what on earth are Pongolle and Mellor doing out on loan? these are two of the best strikers we had. Also, a lot of you guys wanted Baros out last season for only scoring 13, but what have we got now? our "one goal a season" strikers.
At least Milan Chased every single ball. I never wanted him to go.

Harry kewell too, what on earth did he do? he doesn't have the strength or determination to be an LFC player. he has no bottle. he's a wimp. where was the fight tonight?

Im sorry but Rafas judgement has cost us in the CL. and our Crown! Now what have we got to play for. The FA cup, where we are certain to be drawn V chelsea again!

People in this Forum dont like me, saying I dont support the team. But my critisisms are spot on, and I am always proved RIGHT! I always am. Half of you in here have not got a clue what you are on about. I just laugh at a lot of posts in here! Before we play every game peeople are saying , We'll win 3-0  we'll win 4-0 . etc etc. you havent got a clue! be more realistic. Morientes could not score in a Brothel with the Bill paid !! ,anymore, he is well spent.
I dont criticise the team for laughs, I do it for the good of the team. We need to spend mega bucks for the best players in the world, as cheap alternatives are not good enough!

Beaten 0-2 by one of the worst teams in the last 16 is a joke.the Crowd signing Youll never walk alone, and Rafa benitez after they scored the 2nd goal was shameful. LFc deserved to be BOOED off the pitch. Otherwise No-one will bat an eyelid and Morientes will probably start V arsenal this weekend. Rafa needs to be told, stop fiddling with Cr*p strikers.
I cant see him getting a lot of cash, as we are supposed to be finding money for a new stadium. SO Rafa could be off too!

And Bill Shankly will be turning in his grave right now, with a team full of these overpaid nancy boys ie; cisse , moro, garcia, kewell, etc, who are having a laugh all the way to the bank! and havent ONE OUNCE of fight in them.

What happened to the LFC teams that used to spank teams 4, 5, 6 and 7...NIL ?

People say we shouldnt spend 20m, 30m on one player...Whey not ? there are players out there who can make a difference. Van Nistlerooy, Henry....20+ goals a seaosn players. So too Owen.  Its Not Rocket Science. SOme players you can buy with your Eyes shut.

Rafa Get it sorted.

Tiresome as fu.ck.

Yeah Judge, Fowler is perhaps our best striker at the moment. At least he scored 4 + 3 goals in 2006 compared to 1 goal from our 2 + 1 strikers (wouldn't be fair to Cisse to call him a total striker since he plays on the wing more often).

Nevertheless Fowler's still lacking the fitness and needs to shed some pounds for sure. Pace was never really his game but he certainly needs to get that sharp turn, that spring in his steps back. I actually have high hopes on him seeing that he could still perform at this level despite having completed 90 mins just once since last May.

Anyway, at first I did not really feel any really rush of emotions after the final whistle - just dissapointment maybe. But after learning that ours was the worst defence of the CL crown ever since the CL formed, that perhaps made me feel even more depressed than being 3-0 down at Istanbul.

Hate to say it, but as soon as I saw Traore lining up last night I thought we'd concede a goal.  If ever there was proof that Carra needs a dominant CB beside him to go and win the ball in the air then last night was it.  Traore was pathetic, often out of position and pushed off the ball and beaten in the air by guys half his height FFS.  Carra wasn't blameless either, 2 chances he really should have scored and it was his fault for the first goal imo, he faffed around with thew ball and got robbed stupidly.  Such has been the guy's consistency though that you can't really be too harsh on him, just wasn't his night.

Everyone harps on about not scoring, and granted it's a weakness.  The persistence with Morientes was a mistake, the substitutions of Cisse and Fowler came too late, but hindsight's a wonderful thing.  But the game was lost in centre midfield last night.  The tactic to instruct Alonso to push further forward instead of protecting the vulnerable Traore cost us.  This combined by a shocking display from the captain lost us the game.  Gerrard and Alonso showed little discipline and were far too gung-hoe in the 1st half.  The warning came when they hit the bar, but we took no notice and didn't change it.

Once they scored it demoralised us, we should have been 3-0 by then with the chances we had.  Despite that I still believe if we'd kept the clean sheet we'd have gone through, we'd have eventually broken them down.

And one last note to all the Hyypia-bashers on the forum - he is still the best defender at this club by a mile imo, and I include Carra in that, he'd have made a huge difference to us last night.  You saw what happened last night when you play 2 centre backs together who are weak aerially, disaster.

I am in a seriously p!ssed off mood today.

Major surgery needed to the squad in the summer.  Theres no point making new signings and keeping the likes of Traore in the squad.  Rafa needs to wield the axe and cut out the sh!te that has always fcuked things up for us.  Fair enough we gave it a good go in the first half an hour but at times it looked as though Alonso and Gerrard were the only ones willing to roll up their sleeves and get stuck in.

The writing was on the wall as soon as the team sheet came out.  Defensively we were all over the shop, fair enough there was no other options but Warnock for all his effort, hasnt got the quality.  Traore is a joke, its as if he puts fear in his own team mates.  When Cisse came on it just showed he should NEVER be played out on the wing as he cant cross a ball.  Dont think he can do anything for that matter.

The lack of goals is frightening, and I am seriously worried about getting fourth spot never mind second.  I know there is a topic on Luis Garcia entitled "trickster/ball waster" well for me the latter will be his euolgy.

I hope we can turn this around starting at Highbury.  Its not so long ago that we put together a record run of wins so lets just hope this is a blip.

The  whole team just looked spent to me, no fight or spirit ,no clenched fist attitude, really strange for a Liverpool team and Gerrard seemed well off key, almost as if he had accepted defeat. To see the European champions to go out with a whimper hurts like hell. And Traore -stop smiling and laughing when you :censored: it up..its really annoying.
So we blew our many chances and Simao popped up and scored. I wouldnt blame Cara for that, hed no right to score ftom there -helluva strike, thats football. But if wed have had someone of Owens calibre up front it wouldnt have been a problem. Our strikers in the past had the ability to score with a half chance, when our backs were against the wall and thats the difference . Morientes ariel threat-where is it? :no
Not only did we miss sami at the back, we missed him from corners ,some of the balls into the box last night were right up his street. depressing

Hi,

First of all, congratulations for your stadiums atmosphere and supporters...every supporter in the world should be like yours...it was nice to see you singing in the 5 last minutes...shows good fair play and team support...and i think that on that game our supporters were amazing also becauise through tv you could hear them trhoughout the all second half, so that mean that the 2500 portuguese benfica fans were always supporting benfica....and i am proud of that.

About the game, you were better than us during the 10th mn and the 25th....appart that there was no big danger from you....we had luck in 2 ball that hit the posts and you were lucky with one...you also had a referee that was terrible (probably the only person that couldn´t handle the pressure of such game last night), with 3 wrong off side against us and on the first one carragher should had been sent off because he tacled geovanni from behind only with the GK between geo and your goal.... after the 25th mn we started controlling the game as we wanted, playing very well in counter attack...2 great goals, a good exhibition from all the team, especially Beto that make gerrard look like a regular player (and he is a fabulous one)....i wish you good luck for the rest of the season, and again, congratulate you for your supporter...but i will never forget that Anfield Road last night was OURS!

E PLURIBUS UNUM

P.S. You say that Moutinho is arrogant because he says that he is special and all of that, but some of you should then look at what they wrote in this forum before the game and think for a minute.
