OWen aint NEVER coming back, as Rafa dont want him!

-Cisse
-Crouch
-Morientes
-Boros[will be sold by the end of the weak]
-Pongolle
-Mellor

That's five, and only three experienced strikers who we can depend on. Pongolle has a future, but not the same can be said for Mellor.

Arsenal: Henry,Reyes,Van Persie,Bergkamp
Chelsea: Crespo,Drogba,Cole,Guidjohnsen
Manchester United: Van Nistelrooy, Rooney,Saha,Smith

As you can see the three have four experienced strikers. Once Baros leaves that will leave us with three, Owen comming back would boost our attacking strength greatly.

If Benitez doesn't want Owen, why hasn't he said that he doesn't want him?

Yes, that's right, I dreamt it.  I made it up.  It's all gibberish and falsehood.

Don't Rafa want him, no? :D

Just started supporting Liverpool since May 25th 2005 have you?  Read my 20,000,000 posts on this forum.  You'll find about three or four members who have been here longer than me.  Then come back and show a bit of knowledge yourself.  Then I won't take the piss as much.

Chill mate.  It's only the internet.

Guys, much as I hate to add to enormous threads like this...

I've just spent an evening in the pub with a v reliable sports journo friend of mine. According to him, the state of play is that LFC are in very preliminary discussions with Real about signing Owen on a year's loan as a precursor to a permanent deal, which has stalled at an early stage because Real want in the region of £2m just for the loan. Real are trying to talk LFC into a permanent deal now, but LFC don't have £16m, and are talking (NOTE: not offering, just talking) more in the region of £9.5m.

Also, Owen has told his agent that he would rather stay in Spain than sign for Newcastle, and Man U are not engaged in any dialogue with the club or the player at this time.

Phew, I've just read through this thread from the start, having read bits and pieces during my previous life as a 'lurker' on these boards.  The signals coming out of Michael Owen's advisors and his mates (Gerrard and Carra) seem to indiciate that a move home is just around the corner.

I'm aware that as a new member here this might sound a lot like me trying to impress the brass - but JonnyMac's posts are well written, coherent, but most importantly always accurate.  There is no reason to disbelief him about this, and I'm sure its all true.  Michael Owen will be welcomed back with open arms.  One point I'd just like to make about the transfer loss is that Owen's wages each year were probably in the reigion of 3.1mil (assuming 60k a week).  So we saved that much last season.  A feble arguement I know, and much as I wouldn't want us to cave in to Madrid, I feel that Owen is player we can't afford to miss out on.

I would be inclined to cough up before they raise the demands further (Figo style), and be satisfied that we have the two men they most want at their club in Stevie G and Rafa.
