Torres to take Anfield pay cutJames Ducker
Fernando Torres may be on the verge of becoming the most expensive signing in Liverpool’s history, but the Spain striker will take a pay cut to hasten his move to Anfield. Torres has also indicated that he is prepared to cut short his holiday to sign for Liverpool this week, but, failing that, the Atlético Madrid forward will fly to Merseyside to sign what is expected to be a five-year contract worth about £90,000 a week when he returns from the Polynesian Islands in seven days’ time.

Although the deal will put him among the club’s best-paid earners, alongside Xabi Alonso and Jamie Carragher, it is still less than the annual €8 million (about £5.4 million) he presently earns with Atlético and some way short of the reputed £120,000-a-week salary of Steven Gerrard, Liverpool’s highest-paid player.

Liverpool have agreed a deal in principle with Atlético, although it is thought to be significantly less than the £27 million release clause stated in the player’s contract. It is thought that Liverpool will pay between €26-30 million, with Luis GarcÍa, who is valued at about £4 million, moving the other way.

The Torres transfer will not collapse if GarcÍa rejects a return to his former club, however, and whatever the eventual cost, it will still comfortably eclipse the £14.2 million that Liverpool paid for Djibril Cissé, who is expected to complete his move to Marseilles early this week after the deal was held up over the weekend in the wake of late intervention from West Ham United. Liverpool would still like more than the £6.1 million fee that has been agreed with Marseilles, but Cissé, who spent last season on loan at the French club, has indicated that he wants to join only a team that can offer him Champions League football, despite initial suggestions that he favoured a return to England.

sounds very good to me,  but i will be relieved when the deal is done...   :)

Atletico Madrid striker Fernando Torres seems to be demanding a six-year deal worth £31m to join Liverpool.
Really a lot, but seems to be agreed soon (if it isn't already done)...

I'd say sign him on a £60,000 a week contract and if he scores 20 plus epl goals, back pay him the £100,000 a week.
To much money for an unproven striker in this league.
If he's confident in his ability, he shouldn't have a problem!!!!

The reports of the wages are all false imo, the sun started that and they always try to stir S**T when it comes to us, so i wudnt worry about that at all! The decent newspapers report that the personal terms will not be a problem and he is expected to fly back from holidays to sign, and they also rumour that rafa is also after a winger in another signifcant signing so i reckon that torres wont be our only signing, everything is just being kept hush hush!!!

It's does my head in but I'd prefer us to keep eveything quiet till players sign. Atleast that way we know not to take any notice of the papers.

I had to laugh at the report about Man city trying to hijack the deal though. Who would you rather play for, the bext team in europe with a glittering history and champions league football or a team living in the shadow of it's big brother managed by a swede who can't keep his knob in his pants and owed by a thai dictator being investigated for fraud ( or what ever it is. )

My wrench is already there along with my steel pad if Torres fail to score us 30 goals next season. Let's see how bad he will get his injury.

Marca Exclusive!!

Another one for your translation, Sabre! As far as I can tell, Torres has come back early from his hols to finalise the deal in Madrid and the transfer will now go through in hours.
