The cost of attending - Part 2

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Dalglish started a topic earlier this month about the cost of attending games;being a keeper and collector of all things trivial,I've opened boxes and gathered together a fistful of old match ticket stubs, train tickets and coach tickets to give a few of the younger members an idea of how much we had to spend to see our beloved team.I had the good fortune to do my travelling around the country watching the Reds conquer all that was put before them.....well most of the time.

With the Cup Final only 2 weeks away,how does it compare;
Prices increased slowly through the 70's and 80's and all prices are for the terracing behind the goals at Wembley.

Newcastle..1974.....£3.00
West Ham..1981.....£3.50
Spurs........1982.....£4.00
Manu.........1983....£4.00
Everton......1984....£4.50
Everton......1986....£5.00
Arsenal.......1987....£6.00
Wimbledon...1988....£8.00

90's.....seating only
Sunderland.....1992...£45.00(side)
Bolton............1995...£34.00(behind goal)
Manu.............1996....£30.00(behind goal)
Arsenal...........2001....£70.00(side)
Manu..............2003....£70.00(side)

to be continued(have to change a nappy)

Right ..Done.
Just to give a little perspective in 1977 you were paying 80p to go on the Kop,whilst your kid brother was at home with the Shoot Annual costing £1.25.A pint of beer was about 25p,daily Mirror 7p

1981 the Kop entrance price was catching upto the price of the Shoot Annual...Kop £1.70..Shoot £1.95 even a scarf in 1981 was more being £2.00 from the little souvenier shop....Beer 40p

1992 the cost of the Shoot Annual was £4.25 whereas a seat was setting you back anything from £10-£15

Twenty years ago the Kop cost £2.50..season ticket for stands £85.00..replica shirt £15.00

The lowest price I ever paid to get on the Kop was about £6.50 during the mid to late 80's. Happy days :)

There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

Thanks for reviving my old thread Supersub and your extensive research.

Facts are that the Premier League and footbal lin general has taken the supporters for a ride charging diproportinate amounts for attending games. With the advent of shirt /Stadium /kit sponsorship the realiance on supporters to generate income is not as important to clubs these days but it didn't stop them fleecing us for the best part of the last 10 years  ???

Like yourself I have a family and a limited income and can't afford to attend as many games as I would like. I actually enjoy attending Away games a lot more than home games but need to keep buying the Season ticket although seeing as I now have 7 Aways on my fan card THIS season and I'm likely to get a couple more I may decide to sack the season ticket next season and only attend Away games.

Anfield's no longer the hotbed of atmosphere and passion any more and
