Tevez anyone?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby destro » Thu May 21, 2009 8:33 am

The way I see it is, 20 Million tops for Tevez ( including wages, make up, neck scarfs etc ). 30 Million is 20 Million for the player and 10 Million to p!ss Fegurson off ??? waste of 10 Million IMO. He is not a 30 Million pound player so since when did this "get one over on United" saga rise to 10 Million that could be better spent elsewhere ?

If he wants to play for Liverpool he has a word with his "owner" and they drop the price OR he stays at United OR goes abroad

Yeah that's what I thought too. Rafa came out in a similar fashion when we were linked with Heinze and we were never even in for him then even. I don't believe a word of this.

Or maybe this is a new more confident Rafa benitez who isn't afraid to make his targets known right under whiskeynoses face.

I don't think we will get Tevez to be honest unless Xabi Alonso gets sold and no way do i want that to happen the only players I can see are defensive ones as Rafa is more confortable getting defensive ones so

Glen Johnson(not to convinced about this signing)
Gareth Barry (not too convinced either)
Abdial (Valencia)

and then it will be some no marks that we have never heard of,

But saying that if we sell Lucas,Babel and Dossena and even Skrtyl or Agger wwe could raise 15m we can get Tevez but  under no circumstances must we sell Xabi Alonso

Abidal plays for Barca I think you mean Albiol.

As for Xabi what people want and what Rafa thinks will help the team are 2 different things. I know Xabi is a popular player but remember had it not been for a few mil more he would have been playing for Arsenal this season.

re Owen. St Jim Jams Park is one of the worst for injuries, must be something about their training or something. Obafemi Martins doesn't get half the stick for injuries as Owen, but he's out as often if not more often. I would take him back, worth it for say £5m if he could get fit or even if he only played half the games.

SELECTED NEWCASTLE APPS 08/09

Owen : 10 goals in 31 apps (0.323 goals/app)
Enrique : 0 goals in 27 apps
Martins : 8 goals in 24 apps (0.333 goals/app)
Viduka : 0 goals in 11 apps
Barton : 1 goal in 9 apps
Xisco : 1 goal in 7 apps (not sure if he has been injured or not picked)
Smith : 0 goals in 6 apps

Hardly a good place to go to stay clear of injury, they can't be leaving some of those players out by choice given their predicament surely? I'd rather 10 goals from Owen or him on the bench than rely on N'Gog, Babel or another punt at a striker a la Keane

re Heinze. I wouldn't be that thrilled at having an ex-manc, certainly not directly from old twatford, but if a player is really worth having then so be it. Hell, it isn't like he would be the first - Ince anyone? Also Beardsley played a League Cup match for the mancs in 1982 (signed for £300k, played ONE game and was let go - what saps!)

There have not been many players to have made the move between these two clubs. In fact, the last player to do so was 45 years ago when Phil Chisnall who went from Old Trafford to Liverpool for the princely sum of £25,000 in April 1964. Other players to have moved between the two great rivals include Thomas McNulty (1954), Ted Savage (1938), Tommy Reid (1929), Fred Hopkin (1921), Tom Miller (1920), Jackie Sheldon (1913) and Tom Chorlton (1912).

Owen on a free, with reduced wages, is a no brainer for us and him.

Given the amount of chances we create he would get 15-20 a season with limited appearances.  He'd be happy to come back and have to prove/re-establish himself, so there'd be no Keaneisms about not playing every game.

Some on here are saying "never sign a manc player" and are being accused of being short sighted etc, but equally many say they wouldn't have Owen back due to how he left.

If that is the only reason that is equally a load of b@lls surely?

If he will give us back up/another option/cover for a very small investment (and I think he would) then we should go for it and not worry about the whys and hows of how left the club years ago.

I'd still sign Teves unless the money is stupid...£20m fee sounds about right.

It's time for some big signings, Torres calibre signings and Teves fits the bill. I hope we can afford him but more importantly I hope that it doesn't come at the cost of any of our other key players.

About Owen Rafa tried to bring him back but he turned him down so I don't know why he would go back to him again.

I don't want Owen to be honest as he is not ready to play second fiddle to anyone (at least he doesn't think so). I would want someone like Klose if he comes cheap as he is excellent in the air and provide us with a different option. I think Rafa also need to see what to do with Kuyt as he can use him at forward and get a legit R wing or Kuyt stay on the right and get another top forward like Tevez. I believed Kuyt has been excellent and his crosses were also improved greatly this season. But I would prefer to have a legit R wing to be honest. I also want a RB (MIcah Richard :D only dreaming i suppose).

a flying RB plus Kuyt would be the dream combination (or at least that's how i think rafa sees it)  :D
