This is the first real worrying sign that he could be off unfortunately.  It would be hard to watch him play for another English club.  But you know what?  What I said before I still stand by, if any of these players don't want to play for us they can fu.ck off.  And I mean it.  I'm sick of these pansies crying about things not being just how they want it at their clubs.  Clubs not matching their ambitions, don't like the manager, blah, blah, blah.  They're on a hundred grand a week, adored by thousands every week but still it's not enough.  Fu.ck sake there are people losing jobs left, right and centre these days and even worse young lads dying in Afghanistan , but the poor footballers aren't happy.  Fu.ck them then.  The more I think about it the more disillusioned I get with this game, it's becoming a pantomime.

I think SG and Torres are a fkn disgrace to be honest. I would sell them to the highest bidder ASAP.
Their behaviour not only upsets the fans that pay their wages it also encourages clubs to throw in a bid and can only make prospective buyers think twice.
30ml for a 30yo who looks like time is catching up with him and 70ml for a forward who is injury prone would do me as long as its given to RH to get in class replacements who wont play the big I AM!

Fernando Torres' agent has denied making the comments published in the English press on Monday regarding the striker's future at Liverpool.

Agent Jose Antonio Martin reportedly refused to commit the Spain forward's long-term future to Anfield and indicated he could move to another Premier League club.

But Martin insists he did not make the remarks and is adamant 26-year-old Torres, who is contracted at Liverpool until 2013, will remain with the Reds.

"For many months I have not spoken to the England press because their quotes are totally false," said Martin.

"Now is not the moment to speak about this issue because Torres is focused completely on his work for Spain.

"After the World Cup (player-agency company) Bahia Internacional will possibly meet with the player but the truth is that Fernando has signed a deal with Liverpool which is for the present and the future."

It was also rumoured that Torres was set for a make-or-break meeting with Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson in the coming days to discuss his future, but Bahia Internacional sources have dismissed this claim as "simple speculation".

TORRES' AGENT DENIES LIVERPOOL EXIT QUOTES

The agent of Liverpool star Fernando Torres, Jose Antonio Martin, has denied making comments to an English newspaper implying Torres could leave Liverpool.

Martin was alleged to have told The Daily Mail: "It is very likely that Fernando Torres will stay in the Premier League, but I cannot say that it will be with Liverpool."

However Torres insisted he is not thinking about next season yet, as he has a World Cup semi-final to concentrate on, and it would appear that Martin agrees with his client.

Of course he denied it but he´s planted the seed.  Its a deliberate strategy, throw seeds into the air and see what comes up.

This plant isn't going anywhere unless someone comes along with a big spade Reg. 70 million spades! :D

I really think he will give us at least another year or 2. When he said he wants to sit down with Roy and discuss his ideas, that doesn't sound like someone looking to get out. Otherwise he would have just left it at that "speak after the world cup" stuff....

How hard would it be for either of them to make a statement squashing all the rumours?

Now being stupid enough to believe they don't know what their silence means really is funny!

There's alot of sh*t about him in the papers this morning...

What a suprise... 2 days after his agent says he'll be in the premier league next season but not neccesarily at Liverpool, then 1 day after the agent denies saying it...

Chelsea's Roman Abramovich heads to South Africa to capture £50m Fernando Torres

The extraordinary fee still falls short of Liverpool's £70 million valuation of their prize asset in what is set to be a summer of turmoil at Anfield. Javier Mascherano is also understood to be adamant that he wants to leave and Steven Gerrard is still attracting very strong interest from Real Madrid.

Abramovich's presence here shows how seriously Chelsea are taking their pursuit of Torres, who is hoping to keep his place in the Spain side for Tuesday's semi-final in Durban against Germany despite a series of indifferent displays in the tournament.
Chelsea have long-coveted the striker and have spent months discussing the best strategy to sign him.

Their interest will, probably, be rivalled by Manchester City but the allure of playing Champions League football makes them the favourites to secure Torres who wants to remain in England should he leave Liverpool.

Barcelona are also interested but they are struggling to raise the funds while the 27 year-old is unsure he wants to return to Spain yet.

Despite a stream of denials by Torres's agents Bahía Internacional – including a statement yesterday by his agent Juan Antonio Martín – both Chelsea and City have been led to believe that he wants to leave this summer
However because Chelsea are set to bid below the valuation anticipated by Liverpool, it may mean Torres will have to push for a move which could make things messy.

Earlier this year, City's football administrator, Brian Marwood, is understood to have reached an informal agreement by which a bid would be mounted if the club finished in the top four, and qualified for the Champions League, although their hopes have receded. However they will attempt to rival Chelsea for Torres's signature, especially having already acquired David Silva from Valencia as part of a huge spending spree this summer which has also led to the arrival of Yaya Touré and Jerome Boateng.

Further signings – including targets James Milner and Edin Dzeko – are expected.

Torres laid down a marker in what is turning into a protracted exit strategy when he said he wanted Liverpool to recruit half a dozen high-calibre players this summer to avoid last season's disappointment.

But he has said he will speak to new manager Roy Hodgson before resolving his future.

Liverpool have already sold Yossi Benayoun to Chelsea for £5.5 million but the departure of Torres would represent a significant admission by the club that they are struggling to compete especially if Mascherano – who is wanted by Rafael Benítez at Inter Milan – also leaves.

Matters are, of course, complicated by Liverpool's limited finances and the attempts to sell the club by their American owners, Tom Hicks and George Gillett.

Abramovich was in South Africa for the start of the World Cup but has now returned to show Torres and his representatives how serious his intent is.

He is hoping to meet with Torres' agents over the next few days. A source close to the deal said last night that the Chelsea owner was "pushing very hard" to complete the deal.

Liverpool meanwhile are believed to be monitoring Maynor Figueroa, Wigan's Honduran international left-back. The 27 year-old, who has spent two seasons at the DW Stadium, is expected to leave for around £6 million this summer but wishes to remain in England.

Steve Bruce, the Sunderland manager who brought Figueroa to the Premier League, attempted to take the player to the Stadium of Light in January and is expected to renew his interest, but may face competition as Hodgson looks to bolster his defence.

Hodgson has just £12.5 million to spend and inherited one senior left back, the inexperienced Argentine international, Emiliano Insúa.

Hodgson, the former Fulham manager, has also been linked with a move for former Arsenal midfielder Gilberto Silva, currently with Panathinaikos, while Joe Ledley, whose contract at Cardiff City has expired, is also thought to be under consideration.

Chelsea start Torres bidding at £35million - exclusive

Chelsea last night tested Liverpool’s determination to keep Fernando Torres with an opening bid of £35million.

Owner Roman Abramovich has sanctioned the move to add the Spanish superstar to the Blues’ stable of forwards.

Liverpool have already told Barcelona and Chelsea any pursuit of Torres is futile, but the Londoners are gearing up to make the Anfield club an offer they can’t refuse.

New Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson remains confident he can persuade the Spain international to stay on Merseyside for at least another year as the club moves closer to finding new owners.

Hodgson has already had an encouraging conversation with his star striker after the two had brief telephone discussions over the weekend.

And the new manager plans to fly to Spain early next week for more talks with the Reds hero in an attempt to persuade him to give Liverpool another season and to see if a takeover can be completed.

Here's a question. How much or how often would Torres need to play in order to make selling him at his age for a huge amount of money absolute madness? Lets just for once leave out the "but the owners will steal all the money" posts, and assume that we get 60 million quid for him, of which the manager is given 40 mill to spend (it's just a for instance, try and run with it and resist the temptation).

If we had the 40 million, and went and bought for example Carlton Cole, Steven Ireland and Hangeland, as well as getting Joe Cole on a free, would we be in a better situation or worse if Torres played as often as he did last season? Would we be in a better situation or worse if Torres played every week? Is there an equation to be calculated whereby we work out based on previous seasons, how often Torres is likely to play and therefore whether it is sensible to cash in?

Please note I haven't offered any answers, I've merely asked the questions.
