Sissoko. could it just be.... - That we've found ourselves a gem.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but Sissoko is only 21. Yes, Cesc at Arsenal is already a great player at 20 but that is very unusual. Viera was great about 25 so really, Sissoko has time to get to those dizzy heights. He is in the right team to develope and he will learn much from Gerrard, Alonso and Zenden who are all different types of players. The reason Benitez is already a big fan of Sissoko is because he is able to perform well as a strong defensive central midfielder despite his age and price. Chelsea forked out 20mil plus for Essien, Man Utd 18mil for Carrick, yet Sissoko is not miles away from quality to either of those players and yet he cost about 5mil and is only 21. He is developing and he will get better and better. Very unfair to compare him to Viera (who himself was nothing special at 21) or Makele. Benitez knows what he is doing and I think Momo Sissoko is already a very good player who is going to turn into a great player. You won't always notice him, because he won't score often and there will be few runs forward, but he will give us strong cover. Remember, Madrid let Makalele go and thought they would be fine without him, yet the fact is they have won nothing since he left (three years ago). I have the feeling Sissoko will be as important to us in the future.

Exactly.  When Sissoko is between 24-26 yrs,  he will become one of the best defensive mids in the world.  We can see that his tackling, strength and anticipation has improved since last season and I have a sneaky little feeling that those 3 attributes will develop over the past 3-4 years which will make him a great defensive midfielder.

Sissoko is improving all the time, it's plain to see, but I don't think he is at the level yet of being able to come on in say the 65th minute and changing the shape of the match. That's something I hope Rafa and co will work on in the future. No matter how good Sissoko is, for the time being we will seriously miss Hamann.

Complete bollox.

One of Sissoko's major assets is his ability to run flat out for 90 minutes, closing down and smothering the opposition.  Why the fu.ck would you only want him to play for the last 25 minutes of a game anyway?

Hamann changes 2 high profile games by being brought from the bench and suddenly you think this is the mark of a top midfielder?  Where do you get it from

I never said it was a mark of a top class midfielder, I said it is something which we had in Didi, which is a quality you need,  and it's a quality that we no longer have. Hamann's presence actually changed three profile games if you remember the fact that he was subbed in the match against Leverkusen in the Champions League.

Over the moon he will be back for the derby, we really missed him against WH.
It just shows how tough the lad is getting back so quick after 2 injuries.
Would love him to score on saturday and just think he could have been playing against us had Rafa not hyjacked the deal.
Thank god, what a great prospect he is imagine how good he will be in a year or two

Superb banner someones made from another forum. He's like Godzilla  :D

I came on here to ask whether he was back for the weekend. That's great news that he is back and I would reckon he will come straight into the team for the derby!

Welcome back Momo you've been missed. :D

Momo Sissoko is a wonderful player. I'm french and before moving to Valencia, he was already great in Auxerre for the few matches he played.
In Bordeaux, we have a young midfield player, who is 21 too and who is exceptional for his age too. He has played for Bordeaux since he is 8 years old, was called to play as a French international at 19. Remember his name, you'll see him play against Momo Sissoko in CL: Rio Mavuba.

Every body in France know he will be the new Claude Makelele, whom he is the substitute with a touch of the great Jean Tigana (who played for Bordeaux for a long time).

Momo Sissoko, Rio Mavuba, Javier Macherano, Cesc Fabregas...they will be the next best midfielders in the world. (The best right now is...Steven Gerrard of course!)[B]

I think its an easy decision who i'd rather have in my team. Sissoko wins hands down over Hamann, I like Hamann but Sissoko wins in every aspect of playing except goal scoring. Which I personally don't think is necessary for someone in his position.

I can see Sissoko getting a club award this year.

i'd agree with that. hamann was a legend for this club but sissoko basically offers what didi offered and more, especially with the pace of the game these days. hamann still has a couple more seasons left at the highest level but the fact of the matter is, his chances would have been even more limited at liverpool than they were last season.

just on the role that hamann played, i'm not a fan of this "holding role" concept in general. i think it's a nonsense. as far as i'm concerned, you attack as a team and you defend as a team. your two central midfielders should have the brains to react to different situations which is why alonso is still a vital part of the side and why gerrard is finding himself playing on the right hand side more and more. there's no point tying sissoko down with formations and tactics. that's not his game. just let him be at his dynamic, destructive best.

I agree. To my mind he looks like a younger, better Viera.

Didi was "calm and collected" in any situation, always kept it simple and didn,t need to run up and down the pitch 90 minutes long because he could read the game and knew where the ball was going.
He knew exactly when to fall and win us a free kick to relieve pressure, also when to commit a foul to break up the oppositions attack. In short a class player.
Momo is young, and his strenght lies in being able to run for 90 minutes. I like the fella, I just hope that when he is as old as Didi is, that he has the same impact as Didi over the past few seasons.

i would of loved us to have signed sissoko
hes a top quality ball winner, hes not afraid
to put himself about even if it means he
gets injured in the proces. as hard as nails
i do however think he is rash and a few of
his challenges have been real nasty
and surprise surprise no media
attention was placed on it, as soon as
essien or ballack does something of a similer thing
its spread out all ova the papers. lol!

Of course Sissoko has the odd bad tackle, but ive never seen him make a possible career ending tackle as the ones Essien has done.
