Sissoko. could it just be.... - That we've found ourselves a gem.

I am going to get Sissoko on my Liverpool kit this year.  I told my friends that he was going to be the best midfielder in the EPL in 3-5 years bar none.  They laughed it off, but since they have taken more of an interest.  This guy was awesome yesterday, he went in hard at tackles and they were all clean.
Our best signing has been Sissoko hands down.  Reina was a great signing but I have a feeling that Sissoko will be the one to watch.
:censored: off that it finished 2-1.  I had 5 pounds on liverpool taking them 2-0 at 22-1 odds........................

I was massively impressed by Sissoko yesterday. He bossed the midfield from start to finish and some of his tackling was awesome. I found it hilarious when Ballack pulled up after 20-25mins and decided he was fed up with Momo making a c*nt of him and decided to take a break.

The lad has improved so much and his energy levels re unbelievable. He was by a mile the best midfielder on show yesterday and even his erratic passing is getting better.
Ask yourself, would you enjoy playing against him ?
The answer is no, i dont think there is any player that harrases the opposition into mistakes like Momo does.
He has to start every game imo.

I would pretty much agree with all the plaudits that have been aimed at Momo throughout this thread, his progress since he arrived at the club has been nothing short of amazing. If you take a moment to think about it, for a 21 year old to enter a huge stage like Cardiff and completely outshine some of the best midfielders in the world (and I include our own Stevie and Xabi in this) simply beggars belief. And what's more yesterday was no one off, he's doing it with an ever increasing level of consistency.

I truly believe over the next couple of seasons the comparisons with Viera will cease as a result of Momo's reputation simply surpassing that of the former Arsenal man. In short I fully agree with those on here who feel we have a real gem on our hands, God help the rest of the prem if he learns how to shoot!!

Gotta give a shout out to Momo.... He's gonna be so important in the PL this season, especially games like Sheff Utd on Saturday when they're gonna have try and spoil 'cause they'd get a football lesson otherwise, Momo's the man to mix it in these types of games leaving Stevie and Xabi to pull the strings, god I'm looking forward to it........!

He was immense yesterday he gave the Chelsea midfield a real hard time, amazing to think we got him at a fifth the price they paid for Essien who I thought was great yesterday as well

Why did Valencia ever sell him? Total idiots, he deserves all the praise hes been getting recently and long may it continue :buttrock

A bit unfair to call Valencia "Total Idiots".  I think all in all Rafa negotiated very well to prise him away from Valencia.

It can be said that we got him through "fantastic" shrewd bit of business by Rafa.B. (something in the region of 8mil Euros- Valencia needed the case at the time).

Anyway I believe that Momo wanted to work for Rafa.B again, the rest as they say is history.  :)

If there were stats on it he would definately be at the top of the "proportion of dives which resulted in no free-kick" league. He never, ever gets a free-kick when he dives. He either needs to get one of the cuter players to give him a couple of lessons, or better still forget all about it altogether.

if only hamann was still here. :D

The only problem with Momo is that he is that good it will give rafa a real headache trying to fit in possibly the best 3 midfielders in the league into 2 positions.

Gerrard Sissoko Alonso

Its a dream come true.

The only way to do it is to play 5 in the middle because when you add into the mix Gonzlaes and Pennant, it has to be he strongest midfield in Europe!!! :D

My team would be

                   Reina
     Finnan  Carra  Hypia  Aurelio
Pennant  Gerrard  Momo  Alonso Gonzales
                  Bellamy

But if we do play that team, Th emidfield need to support Bellamy much better than inthe past
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

As brilliant as Sissoko is, i don't subscribe to the theory that he is undroppable. Infact i'd be tempted to leave him out for home games against the so called "lesser opposition" to allow Gerrard and Alonso to try and forge a greater understanding.

However against the big boys and especially away from home, I'm of the opinion that all three should play with gerrard on the right hand side.

I don't understand your thinking though about playing one upfront because regardless of who we have as the lone striker, the guy just behind him needs have certain things to his game that Gerrard hasn't got.

Some are attacking mids and some are strikers but Rooney, Maradona, Riquelme, Zidane, Garcia, Dalglish, Aimar all fit this role. Gerrard doesn't. The only player we've got to play there is Garcia.

It's about subtelty and trickery and being able to do what they do in a limited space. Gerrard is better in a deeper or wider position. His strides are larger, he's more direct and he dominates a large space.

In that small space he doesn't know how to get in the game.

I think all of this proves it...the key to vast footballing improvement is to get kicked in the eye!

In all seriousness though, I've loved the guy since we snatched him away from the Bitters, and it looks like he's already gone miles in terms of fixing his previous (and rather bad) passing problem. Still, seeing him explode like this really makes one think of how close he came to never playing again.

30 years or so ago, the Red Sox had a kid named Tony Conigliaro, who instantly became a fan favorite and was destined to become one of baseball's all-time greats. A few years into his career, he was hit directly in the eye with a pitch, and lost some terrible amount of vision. He played again, but eventually his sight deteriorated to a point that made it impossible.

This is what living in a defeatist sports city does to someone...when Sissoko was injured, I just sort of sat back, threw up my hands, and said "it figures." No player with that kind of lightning-in-a-bottle talent, playing for my team, could ever be allowed to actually have the legendary career he was meant for. But then, somewhat miraculously, he recovered, and now he's better than ever.

And that sealed the deal for me...it's officially a new goddam era!

Who said anything about Gerrard being the only guy to link up with the striker.

The way I see it we have a number of players in the midfield I stated who could and should get forward to join up.

The 2 out and out wingers should always be running into the box when his opposite number has the ball, Gerrard can and does command forward.

In my opinion Rafa does not particulary sign up to the rigid 442 formation that most of us have been brought up on.  His idea is for the whole team to defend, break and attack as one unit.  If you take that theory to its extent then you might not need to play 2 strikers, as in effect you have attacking players all moving up the pitch together.

May seem a bit futuristic now, but who knows?

Of course, you may be right, St, He may just rotate the players.  However, if you look at last season, our good run only came after we stuck to pretty much the same team every week.

However we look at this, I suppose its a nice problem to have

Also our good run came only when Rafa decided to play two upfront. But that midfield you have there Ola Mr Benitez  looks a very strong one indeed. But I think we can afford to play two upfront and should.

1) Because last season when playing one upfront we lacked killer instinct and goals to win us matches.
and
2) With Gerrard, Xabi and Momo behind them with either Aurelio or speedy on the left, there is no need to pack the midfield with numbers because We have the quality there instead.
