ROY HODGSON - Official Thread

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

The early press conference sounds to me like he took a right b0llocking from the owners yesterday (hence the press conference yesterday being called off), and has had it outlined to him very clearly what he must do to save his job.

1.  Retract his comments
2.  Win two of the next three games
3.  Improve the standard of our play immediately

I suspect he can only do the first one of those, and if he fails to do the second one, we will be in a relegation fight and out of the FA Cup.

For me he should have gone today.

Silly mentality if anyone thinks that we should lose our next game for Roy to get sacked, its just plain silly.

Roy MUST go, whether we win Bolton or draw or lose, its clear to see that he will eventually go tomorrow, or next week or by the end of the season.

We have to beat Bolton tomorrow, if we don't we are in big big trouble

loves to Backtrack him ,went to far this time .off you go Roy

Roy Hodgson insists he did not intend to attack Liverpool's fans during comments he made in the wake of the 1-0 defeat to Wolves on Wednesday.

After that loss, Hodgson complained that the "famous Anfield support has not really been there" following his appointment as Liverpool boss in the summer.

That accusation did nothing to relieve the pressure on Hodgson, whose side are languishing in 12th place, but he insists that his words were taken out of context.

"I certainly regret if I've offended [the fans] in any way," he said. "It wasn't an offensive comment from my part - in fact, it was a purely defensive comment, and I went on to say I was quite prepared to take responsibility and be in the firing line for the team's poor performance.

"I sympathised and empathised [with the fans]. I'm very disappointed that's been changed into me attacking the fans, there's no way I would want to do that, and it wouldn't be justified either.

"I think [I have the fans support], I think they support the club and the person who is given the job as manager of the club. I think it's been an uphill struggle from the start and I don't think they necessarily got behind the appointment - and there's no reason why they should. They certainly were prepared to give me the chance to get the team playing well."

Although Hodgson was in conciliatory mood, he did risk the fans' wrath by conceding that Liverpool's Champions League dream was rapidly fading. Following the Wolves defeat - their eighth in the league this season - the Reds are 11 points away from fourth-placed Chelsea.

"Nothing's ever gone, but I don't think it's right at this moment in time to be talking about Champions League qualification," he said. "The first aim has got to be to get ourselves into the top of the table and into some sort of touching distance."

So he says the reason for the poor display was because of lack of match practice after having said that a winter break was needed? What planet does this man live on?

Thing is though MH, I already think we are in big trouble. (3 points of the bottom three clubs is scary :no).  RH has gone way to far with his comments about the fans, and then tries to backtrack. Who the heck does he think he is fooling!! RH has already lost the dressing room, once that happens, there is no going back. Your right, win, lose or draw he has to go (though he should have gone yesterday). TBH, I don't even think its worth him turning up. Let King Kenny takeover as caretaker, until a suitable candidate is found and installed as manager.

I don't think he lost the dressing room, if he did he would have been sacked and we wouldn't have come up and said I have the support of the players.

Whether we win or lose tomorrow, he must be relieved immediately, more than 95% of the fans want him gone and it says something!!!

He won't quit.  He'll never get the nice little retirement england job if he quits or gets sacked.  He is probably desperate to do a decent job and he can then take the England job.

This time last year i believe we were all very upset and we were 4th in the table.  We still ended up finishing 7th.  Now we've just totally crumbled and im starting to fear relegation.  Although i think we have a bit too much for that.

OK
But is it too much to ask for a bit of passion or pride? A sense that they want to show the fans that even if the manager is a w@ker at least they will try their best for the fans?
I am probably asking too much but I dont think its alot to ask for from highly paid professionals.
I watched it again and Im so disappointed that our best players are the biggest culprits

Let me ask you a question, have you ever had a boss you absolutely hated and/or been forced to do a job/task which you didn't like. How motivated were you? Why should footballers, who in most cases are far more stupid than you, be any different?

Bit of a silly analogy to be honest
If I was on £100,000 a week and lived an unbelievable lifestyle then I might feel a pang of loyalty to those idiots who pay for my fantastic way of life
I know they are stupid but dont excuse it by encouraging childish behaviour

Hodgson accepts fans anger
Boss never meant to offend supporters and hopes to win them over

By Chris Burton Last updated: 31st December 2010

Roy Hodgson insists he never intended to be critical of Liverpool's supporters and believes they will back him if results improve.

The Reds boss has fallen under mounting pressure over recent weeks, with his inability to establish any consistency at Anfield leaving fans frustrated.

Those of the opinion that Hodgson is no longer the right man for the job, after half a season at the helm, vented their anger towards the under-fire coach during Wednesday's 1-0 defeat to Wolves.

The former Fulham boss responded by suggesting that he has not been given an opportunity to prove himself, saying: "Ever since I arrived, the famous Anfield support has not really been there."

Some fans have taken that as a slant against their commitment to the club, but Hodgson insists that was not the point he was trying to get across.

He told Sky Sports News: "I am disappointed in that. I regret it if I have offended anyone in any way. It wasn't meant to be an offensive comment from my point of view, it was meant to be a truly defensive comment.

Responsibility

"I went on to say that, while describing my situation as not being able to win them over with the performances, I was taking responsibility and was quite prepared to take it on the chin. I am the one in the firing line after a poor performance and I fully understand and sympathise with them.

"I am disappointed that has been changed into me attacking the fans. There is no way I would want to do that and there is no way that would be justified either, because everybody knows the Liverpool fans and the support from the fans is the best in the country.

"I am also aware that to get the best out of that support you have got to play well and give them something to support. We didn't do that on Wednesday night and I would have been surprised if their reaction was any different from what it was."

On his strained relationship with Liverpool followers, he added: "They support the club and they support the man who is in charge of the club.

"I just feel that from the start it has been an uphill struggle. I don't think they necessarily got behind the appointment, and there was no reason why they should. They were prepared to give me the chance to get the team playing well and for them to get behind it but, with that not having happened, I can only accept what has happened, with them turning against me.

"I still believe, though, that they are still very much behind the club and if we start to turn things around, they will be behind us all."

Ambition

A reversal in fortune is required if Hodgson is to avoid the axe, with reports continuing to suggest that he is on borrowed time.

A failure to challenge for a top-four finish, with the Reds sat 12th at present, has gone against him, but the experienced 63-year-old insists UEFA Champions League qualification is not out of the question.

He said: "Nothing has ever gone but I don't think it's right at this moment in time for us to be talking about Champions League qualification.

"That's always the ambition of the best part of the teams that aren't fighting relegation, that's their major goal, and there is no reason why a major club like Liverpool shouldn't have it as a goal either.

"But of course it is going to be very difficult and our immediate preoccupation has got to be to get ourselves into that top half of the table and within some sort of touching distance.

"If we succeed in doing that, then maybe the question becomes relevant. But it's not relevant at this moment in time with the next seven games coming up."
