Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

dam dam dam dam

Roy won me over last night......and that was nothing to do with the game. it was to do with what he said on sky before and after it, Even if he turns out to be a :censored: manager i think i am still going to like him very much as a person.

oh well

as for the game....i see two players i have never seen before.....well they looked like new players.
Babel
johnson

both had great games in my view....Johson has picked his game up so much it was shocking.
Babel looked like the player that some of us knew he could be.

when the chip are down other players have to step up, and that they did last night.

On a serious note who needs Carra, Stevie G and El Nino...?

Thommo I know your only joking (I think!) but the quality of football without Stevie Gerrard has been vastly different from anything we have seen in a long time.

The quality of Raul's free kicks and corners have also been very impressive along with his general play in his preferred position. Raul's relationship with Lucas together with the massive improvement Lucas is continuing to show is another reason in my opinion for the quality of our football.

The lack of Carra's organising skills at the back worries me but Soto offers different strengths especially from corners and free kicks into the box.

Is it time for everybody to realise that everything does not need to go through Gerrard as fantastic as he is? Personally I don't know the answer to that one as I am one of his biggest fans.

Well done Roy! Keep it up. We have a serious opportunity to deal out some punishment to the opposition in the next five matches. Let's make sure we don't slip up and go into January's transfer market looking like the team anybody would want to join.

Spot on Devaney.

Lucas and Meireles in MF were excellent and passed their way around the Villa MF.

Kyrgiakos is a big cumbersome lump at the back but he offers a physical presence and is a goal threat.

Ngog and Babel linked up very well and I for one am happy to see Babel up top where he is at his best.

I am also either noticing a marked improvement in fitness or effort. Guys like Maxi, Lucas and Babel all seem either more up for it or have stepped up in terms of fitness.

You could counter all of the above with the simple fact that Villa were pants last night but I think it was more about us than them.

Well done Roy and the boys.

Waldo - I think that the start of the season was affected by numerous factors but mainly Hicks and Gillette who did there utmost to make the club a laughing stock. Roy and the players have got a lot of pride and are beginning to relish the style of the new regime. Winning the title might just be a out of our reach but fourth place definitely isn't !! Newcastle is going to be key as our away record needs to improve and I think it will.

Tactics and set up against Spurs and Villa were ok. We were very unlucky against Spurs and the majority of people accept that. It is very easy to criticise. Let's give Hodgson the credit he deserves.

I'm sorry but where am I not giving him credit ? If you count just he home results we would be third - if you count the away results we would be second from bottom so it shows where the problem is and what needs changing . We do have a great home record - always have but at the moment the away form is crippling us - if we want to get into CL we need to have the same mentality away from home .

Kyrgiakos offers something Carra doesn't, he's good in the air and offers a genuine goal threat from set pieces.

He's not blessed with pace or is the most mobile CB but then again neither is Carra.

Agger and Kyrgiakos would be my first choice pairing, Carra is a legend but he's not the player he was.

we are closer in points to the top now than this time last year so we are heading the right way, he set the team out spot on for the spurs game and we just got unlucky.

Its been very gradual and sometimes frustrating but I think Hodgson is slowly getting a tune from some of the players he inherited and imposing his system on the group. Its not perfect, not by any means, and we still need improvement on the road, but its looking a bit brighter. Even last night was a bonus because very rarely can we have won so comfortably without the 3 key men missing and for once all the lads knuckled down and got the job done. Hes certainly earned the right to put his own mark on the side in terms of personnel in January. We should just keep taking the small steps and little by little we might just find that we will go beyond recovery and into improvement and a side and manager we can all get behind and enjoy will be there before us.

One game in which we lost isnt enough - we would be second from bottom if you take in just the away games .

Are we doing better or is it other teams are doing worse as we have less points at this stage of season than we did last season . We are closer because of other teams not because of ourselves

Just imagine how closer we would be if our away form was better .

You need more than just being good at home if you want to get into the CL

I don't think anyone is cracking open the bubbly just yet, but things HAVE improved, which the reason some on here are noticeably happier than before.

Personally, i couldn't care less how the rest of the league is performing...our team has improved a LOT over the last few weeks and the players seem to understand the new system a lot better too.

our next 6 games are all winable and i'm confident that we'll be in the top 4 before the year is out.  :nod
