A breath of fresh air on here today...some proper discussion!  :buttrock

I think Ciggy's made some good points and Boodiddy's offered some good counterpoints.  For me, Roy's not the man for the job long-term but I think he'll be given a chance to get us back up the table and I hope he takes it with both hands.

I highlighted this comment because Ciggy's said it before and it honestly makes me scratch my head every time.  I simply see no evidence that Reina's rattled.  In fact, he and the Grok have been our stand-out, consistent performers all season.  The match at Bolton had a number of tricky moments for the lad to deal with and he handled them all with poise.  He was in command of his area, made good saves when he had to, came to punch at the right times, distributed well, looked sharp and focused...all signs that he's on top of his game and far from rattled.

I watched the last half hour of thr Madrid game last night, and Reina must be better than that Casillas bloke surely? I know everyone raves about him, but I'd take our fella over any keeper in the World right now.

I've said it before, but if Benitez has ever made a better signing than Reina for 6 million quid given his age, his sell on value and his consistency, I'd be amazed.

At this point, I think keeping Reina is arguably more important than keeping any other player.

i don't think Reina's confidence is shot but i can see what Ciggy is saying.
He looks more nervy than he was before.

What I will say is I'm feeling a little better about him being in charge now that recuritment and club policy appears to be taken out of his hands with Comolli's appointment. It hopefully means the end of short term "save my bacon" type signings and more medium-long term type signings. Looking at the way things are now, I think he'll probably stay until the end of the season and then the situation will be reassessed.

In the future I don't think any individual cog in the machine will be as influential as has happened in the past. What I mean by that is there won't necessarily be a "manager". Instead there will be a "first team coach" with various other personnel for different tasks, such as recruitment, scouting etc.

I think thats a very interesting statement and just about sums up why you'll never be happy with Hodgson even if we win the league.
You dont like him. Full stop. And no matter whether he wins something or not you still wont like him because you wanted someone else.
You want a positive about Hodgson? He was willing to take on a job which no "top" manager (forget Kenny) would have touched with a bargepole. The poisoned chalice wasnt in it. He had the balls (or the stupidity) to say "I'll have a go. I'll try and lift this once proud club back to its former place in football". He stepped up to the plate and took on one of the worst jobs in club football. And what has he got in return? Fu*king disgraceful disrespect and a hate campaign like Ive never seen in my time as a supporter. Even Souness in his worst spell never got as bad as the sh'it Ive heard and seen that Roy gets.
So hes made a few dodgy statements in the press? Theyre on his case constantly because they are over the Fu*king moon to see what a shambles weve become on and off the pitch. Maybe he should keep his mouth shut. Not because hes wrong in what hes saying, but because the backlash is unbelievable, from fans and the previous manager.
Im personally not ar'sed what happens this season as long as weve had a good try and the players perform for the manager. I think we'll end up in the top six and maybe even the top four. But I would take relegation if it got rid of any "fan" who wished ill on the manager, and therefore the club, just because they didnt get their own way.

YNWA (honestly)

Lads,

Realistically, we know Roy is a temporary appointment, we can either shout and curse every day until he is replaced (not fired, nor resigns, but replaced as planned no doubt when he signed for the club) or we can patiently wait til the new owners are ready. Makes no difference to Roy, nor the owners plans for the club.

Comolli coming is the first step, he'll spend the next month doing a top down appreciation of the club structure and outline areas where - on the non-commercial side, we need to make changes and improvements. Thats his job as Director of Football Strategy and I'm very pleased to see him here.

He'll assess what we have, the limitations and opportunities, and what we need to move forward. First team squad, backroom, academy. The demon 5 year plan raises its ugly head again!

Roy is just one more person in the business plan and the plan wont be rushed.

I wouldnt be surprised if Roy´s here for at a season, maybe longer but I think his replacement will be linked with the owners willingness to make funds available to create the next generation. I imagine there will be an almighty clear out in 12 months.

So whilst we wait, I suggest the mods lock all the Roy threads bar the official one, the forum has become awfully pedantic of late whilst people play ping-pong back and forth.

Lets focus on football instead.

Fernando had a terrible world cup, due to injury, then has very little pre-season and continues to further struggle with his groin. Slowly but surely we have seen fernando getting closer. 2goals, 3 assists and im sure torres is gonna be firing shortly.

I agree with this. Infact I'm backing him to shut all the doubters up this weekend when he sticks one past Cech at the Kop end. Then all these muppets who all of a sudden claim to be "body language experts" will look really stupid.

He's nowhere near his best but like you said he's still contibuting. He's scored 2 of our 3 winning goals in the league, set up the other winner at bolton, set up both goals against sunderland and won both the penalty and the free kick from which we scored against united.

We just need to get more player in and around him in the final thrird. Gerrard has been coming far too deep to collect the ball recently for me. Lucas and Mereiles can pick the ball off the back four and distribute it. We need Gerrard and Torres to get on the same wavelength again. Then we'll start firing.

Gerrard and Torres were only on the same wavelength when we had Alonso distributing balls to him. Without a playmaker as good as Alonso we should drop Stevie into the middle and play Nando alongside Eggnog in a 4-4-2.

It's going to get worse not better I'm afraid. Fairly soon Roy will have us higher than 7th and no doubt going well in one of the cups as well. Some people are going to find that incredibly difficult to cope with as they will still be advocating the manager "fecks off now" but won't have the old "we're in the relegation zone" to back it up.

There'll be blood on the carpet before xmas, that's my prediction .

All it is on here is sarcastic remarks and smileys about Rafa's poor buys, poor results etc etc.

I havent seen once anything positive from the Roy Fan Club.

And theres a reason for that because there is no positives in his appointment.

IMO The new owners should have appointed the new manager not Broughton or Purslow, they are not experienced in the field to do so they are financial experts and not football ones.

Once twit & tw@t where gone that should have been the end of an era every Liverpool fan wants to forget, but its not and the reason is we got Roy in because he is supposed to get the best out of a group of players that where/are under achieving.

He was supposed to put an arm around the players and cheer them up within the first few weeks of the season he alienated Agger, Pepe's confidence is shot to pieces that he's been playing like David James and Torres is playing like one of them strikers that scores every once in a while you know the Marlon Harewood type.

I am not saying this because its Roy I would say it if it was another manager who I thought was not good enough to get us back up there challenging again.

He is trying to lower our expectations and the new owners like winning, he doesnt shut up in the media and gets a cob on when journos question him, and for an english manager he's spent less time working in England than a foriegn manager has.

He has not stayed at a club for longer than 2 seasons and theres a reason for that, its not because he was the most wanted manager around it was because he wasnt good enough and the clubs that he was at wanted someone better.

A liverpool manager does NOT say I dont give a monkeys if we are 18th or 19th a Liverpool manager doesnt say that Northampton Town are formiddable opponents.
Bill Shankly used to say see these lads these are shite and considering some of you think Roy is old school well his comments prove he is not.

All the things he was brought in to do he so far hasnt.

1. Arm around the shoulder. No
2. steady the ship. No.
3. Get us playing better then last season. No
4. Make the media love us again  :glare: No (He is making ashow of himself and us in the media)

So where are all these positives from his appointment? The only good player he has signed is Meirless.  Apart from that he has failed in every single way.

And for our club to move forward with everyone all wanting the same thing, everyone pulling in the right direction means a world class manager with ambitions to match our own, who is not afraid of anyone needs to be brought in and until that happens then there remains serious problems with the club and the fans because Roy Hodgson is not the man to take our club to where it belongs and needs to be.

Excellent post Kid .... exactly how I feel ...I am completely perplexed when it comes to the reasons he was thought to be good enough for Liverpool Football Club .... and it completely baffles me how he thought for one solitary second anything good would come from mentioning S.O.S , Dalglish or casting aspersions  at Benitez in his press conferences ... this man has not the slightest comprehension about what it takes to ingratiate himself with the fans ......and he  has to go.... if only to retain a sliver  of dignity
I don't like the man ,and I cant see that altering in the near future .... and if that offends the sensibilities of some posters then I am sorry, but this myth about supporting a manager who was clearly and irrefutably not the choice of the fans is something they if they feel the need can take on board .... he was never the right choice ....the saying " Give a man enough rope " has never been more apt ..... I literally shudder every time this man sits in front of a microphone .....surely thats not the feeling you should have about the manager of your club   :(
