Real to bid for stevie gerrard - Reports from spanish paper as

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby el_stinger » Fri May 06, 2005 4:39 am

From AS media:

Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard has reportedly become a target of Real Madrid for next season
The Reds and England midfielder has been linked previously  this season with a bid from big spending Chelsea, but while that talk has been constantly denied, SPanish giant Real is now said to be poised to make an offer of 30 million Euros.
"Madrid will go to 30 million for Gerrard" Spanish sports reporter for AS reports, but the report added that Liverpool is believed to want as much as a further 10 million Euros.
The report also suggested that 'negotiations between the two clubs, but two days ago - after helping lead the club to the Champions League final - Gerrard told the Liverpool Echo he wants to remain at Anfield
"I've said all along all I wanted was to see the club going in the right direction and this shows we are," Gerrard said.

40 Million Euros huh, no wonder Chelsea opted to leave the chase, and I've always stated that Real would pay anything to have Stevie.

All he wanted was to play in some really big club games. Well they don't get much bigger than the CL final. I think he will stay for good now.

He's going nowhere

In fact I reckon he'll sign a new contract this summer (2yrs left on current deal and board won't let another mcmanaman/owen situation to develop)

RAFA RUBBISHES GUTI LINK
Paul Eaton 06 May 2005

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez has rubbished reports from Spain that the Reds will look to bring Real Madrid ace Guti to Anfield in the summer in exchange for Steven Gerrard.
The reports suggest Madrid are poised to make a 20 million pound bid for the Liverpool skipper and also include Guti as part of the deal.

But Benitez insists he remains determined to keep Gerrard at Anfield and has revealed he has no desire to sign the Spanish midfielder.

He said: "The situation with Steven remains the same. He has two more years to run on his contract and we want him to stay.

"I have read reports from Spain today that we will sell him to Madrid if they give us Guti. That is not true. Guti is a good player but we do not want him."

I think STeven finally realize how good this team can become. If we add a few class player in the summer, we could become very competitive for years to come. What better place to be than Liverpool. :buttrock

I don't rate Guti.  He epitomises all that is wrong at Real Madrid.  He fancies himself big time and is not prepared to make the physical challenges that are required in the premiership.

I've said in the past that we should sell Stevie but I have had a change of mind and really wish he will be at Anfield next season to form a great partnership with Xabi, even though we could use the money :)
