Spanish sport press usually "blows" these kind of storiies when there is little important to be told...just to sell papers...for me,A Real supporter...I have had enough experiences about "almost signings" that just at the end finished failing (I remember once everybody in spain was sure Pires was gonna play for us) so...stay still cos we have a president in the club that can be fascinated with Gerrard by now but, maybe tomorrow he has forgotten him and goes straight for...whoever.

" a verbal agreement isn't worth the paper its written on" it means nothing.

Anyway, what is first option? i

is there a price at which we must sell to Real if we are to sell SG at all?

or does  it just mean we won't sell him without notifying them (which would be stupid)

Personally I'd rather sell him to Real than any English side. Meaning Chelsea, the only club who could afford him

Me too. I`d be really gutted seeing him in a Chelsea kit. But then again, Real bidding maybe £30M and Chelsea making a "£35 + i.e. Cole, Duff, Parker, Gallas and Cudicini" bid, it would be hard rejecting the Chelsea offer  ???

Yeah Andy...Real Madrid has never been like that...we have never been a "chelsea" , meaning a club that build up a team by means of money money and more money but...now it seems the whole market works like that...anyway, I think last disastrous season is gonna make things change....though the environment, mean press, will go on publishing the same ****** once and again i guess...but we r not to blame for that.     Beat Manchester guys!!!!   lol

"Oral contract mate not worth the paper its writen on"

Anyway, after the way they got Owen in the summer and kept Morientes (he was supposed to be part of the deal) i don't think Real should be expecting any favours from us.

It's just as i think St.Mick said a few days ago - This is just Reals' way of letting Gerrard and the rest of Europe know he is their next target. Madrid are without doubt the most arrogant and devious buggers in the transfer market. Look at the way they dealt with the Viera transfer last summer - First they leak months of spin and rumour through the media to unsettle the player untill he has all but convinced himself he will be the next Galactico. Then they come in with a bid way below the asking price in the knowledge the player already has his heart in Madrid.
They will try and do the same with Stevie - No doubt with the support of Owen whispering in his ear at every England get together - However, they won't stand a chance of getting him on the cheap because Chelsea will outbid them every time. If the lad was worth 30million in the summer, he is worth more now. I'm pretty sure we will see an aution in the summer, particularly as Stevie will then have only 2 years to run on his contract and his value may start to fall because of this.
Like CGGY says - Whatever will be will be - Lets enjoy him for as long as we can kkep him.

its good news for us, yes - gravesen has been doing for everton what stevie g normally does for us. though nowhere near as well, of course. without him they will slide all the quicker i would guess

but i think he's a good signing for you lot. he's not the most outrageously gifted player the world has ever seen but he's tough and gritty and will give a bit of bite in your midfield. he'll do you a lot more good than that to.sser beckham i gaurantee you.

Liverpool deny Gerrard option for Real Madrid
tribalfootball.com - January 14, 2005

Liverpool chief Rick Parry has denied they have agreed to give Real Madrid first refusal on captain Steven Gerrard.

Real chiefs had hoped to secure a first option on the £30million England ace in the deal which took £6.3m striker Fernando Morientes to Anfield.

But Liverpool chiefs successfully avoided any such condition.

Out of courtesy, the Merseysiders instead have given Real verbal assurance that they will inform them if any other club tempt them with a bid for Gerrard.

even that sort of "tapping up" policy is relatively new to madrid. in the past they used to just deny any interest in players. they did this with beckham and zidane before that, but of course before you knew it they were signed.

Hmmm I wonder how fast Everton are going to slip down the table? Faster than you can say "Everton are tragic" perhaps? :D

Exciting times. :D

I'm sure Real Madrid fans are annoyed to be losing a top striker and only gaining an average midfielder within a couple of days.

The first rule in spin doctoring is to replace negative publicity with positive publicity.  Hence, Madrid leaked rubbish to the local Spanish media that they have an option on Gerrard.....they are simply trying to keep their fans happy.
