Real first dibs on stevie - According to spanish reports

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Reports in Spain have claimed that Real Madrid did secure an option on Steven Gerrard as part of the deal for Fernando Morientes.

Spanish sports newspaper Marca insists that Real have a verbal agreement in place with The Reds that would allow them first refusal on Gerrard should he ever leave Anfield.

Liverpool vehemently denied any suggestion of such a pact during their chase for Morientes, and continue to dismiss the possibility of the England ace departing.

However, Marca are adamant that the two clubs have reached an agreement, but have suggested that Liverpool refused to put anything in writing for fear of a backlash from fans, and the message it might send out.

Gerrard came close to leaving Liverpool last summer when Chelsea prepared a multi-million pound bid to lure the 24-year-old from Merseyside.

With Jose Mourinho a confirmed admirer of the midfielder's talents, The Blues are certain to be in the race for his signature should he become available.

However, Marca are convinced that Real will now be in the box-seat if that scenario should arise, although confirmation of any agreement between the two clubs is highly unlikely.

If I ever shake hands with a Marca reporter I`m gonna count my fingers afterwards.

Marca has proven to be full of ****** and I think this adds to that.. They insisted that Morientes wouldn`t leave Real too  ???  Speaking of that, that new allmighty coach in Real wouldn`t let us buy Morientes because it would be helping an enemy..

This is really nothing to get worried about. IF gerrard was to demand a transfer or IF we had decided to sell, then all this entitles Real Madrid to is a phone call from us to notify them of the situation.

All this means is that Real are the first club to have the door on Stevie slammed in their face. :D  :D  :D

Wish we could drop the Gerrard departure line , surely the way the team is building will convince him that LFC are on the march and it's all being built around him .

This could be as simple as a promise to give them a call, should ever SG be going on the market.
Which would be a sensible thing to do and create as big an auction as possible, if ever he wanted away

Im not really interested anymore about this whole Gerrard saga, hes been a bit quiet the last few games which is a good thing, he shouldnt have said what he said before our CL game, he should not talk to the press making threats.
The other players dont so he shouldnt he should just do the talking on the pitch and if he decides to leave at the end of the season so be it.

I wouldnt want another season like last one and this one with will he wont? in the press constantly, it takes te shine off the club and makes us seem like a one man team, which we have proved this season we are not.
If he goes he goes if he stays its a bonus, but we are on the right track with or without him.

If he thinks hes to good for us then he should go, we are slowly rebuilding at the moment and we are realistickly 2 years away from winning the prem in all honesty maybe longer.
Rafa will bring us good quality players in hopefully and then maybe stevie will realise hes at the right place he wouldnt want to win these honours with any one but Liverpool FC.

And I am sick of all this talk about him hes ours for now lets enjoy him while hes still with us, and if he decides to leave in the summer, Liverpool wont fade and die cause of one player, we are better this season without Owen and we thought how would we cope without him, ok we miss his goals but Baros has been playing good when not injured and hopefully Morientes will fill Owens shoes.
The futures bright the future is Liverpool FC walk on.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

Echo speak:
Meanwhile, Real Madrid failed to agree first option to sign Steven Gerrard, should the Liverpool skipper be available in the future.

Madrid wanted a clause written into the agreement to sell Morientes, but Liverpool refused.

The best the Spanish club could get was a verbal assurance they'd be kept informed if the skipper's position changes.

So there, end of scare !!

Could not has said it better. Nobody is bigger than the club.

Another thing I wish to add, is Owen did not give 100% for the longest time before he left. At least Stevie always gives it everything.

Its not worth a carrot if it is a verbal agreement..
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

i get the feeling that real madrid may have been trying to create a story out of nothing in this case. i'm sure all sorts of interesting discussions go on during transfer deals and all they needed was a sniff of an agreement about gerrard to go and upset the apple cart again. someone probably leaked that it was verbally mentioned to marca and, rag that they are, they released it as a big 'story'.

its f*cking annoying whether its real trying to make waves again or just another case of sh!te journalism.
