Pre-Season 2021/22

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Liverpool's pre-season programme will begin on Monday July 12 with a training camp in Austria.

The Reds will start preparations for the 2021-22 campaign in the state of Salzburg, with a number of senior players set to report for duty on day one as part of a 34-man squad.

Jürgen Klopp’s side will also undertake work across Austria at a base in Tyrol later in the camp.

New signing Ibrahima Konate is among the players due to begin training on Monday following his transfer from RB Leipzig.

Details of Liverpool’s warm-up fixtures, and subsequent broadcast details, will be confirmed in due course.

Assistant manager Pepijn Lijnders said: “We look forward to going to Austria again for the start of our pre-season. All the conditions to prepare the team there are just at a very high level.

“We will use this to go back to basics. When you ask a lot from your players you have to give a lot as well – and we find all of this in Austria.”

Good to see Musialowski included in the squad for pre season training, that lad is a serious talent.

There's a lot of players in that list that could be sold to other teams. Good to see some of our bigger names are back and will get a full pre-season. Even those returning from big competitions haven't played too many minutes. Any updates on our defensive injuries?

van Djik, Gomez, Matip and Trent all did the standard 1st day of pre-season training fitness test which is a bit like a bleep test but more sophisticated. Konate was there as well. So looking good.

Thanks Eagle, that is great news, surely we'll have better fortune on the injury front this year. I see the Cup of Nations is on this year so presume we're going to lose Mo and Mane for a few weeks in January which is less than ideal but all in all I'm looking forward to next season. A big signing would be nice!

The AFCON is scheduled to take place between January 9 and February 6, and we're currently only scheduled to play two Premier League games during this period. At home to Brentford and away at Crystal Palace. So not the end of the world.

When did they shift that back to Jan??

Jan-Feb is usually our weakest period, Sure they'll be couple of FA cup games also.

Not sure I'm a fan of these 30 minute games, you're just getting into it then it's over. Thought Tsimikas, Elliot and Ox looked quite sharp in the second game, iirc Ox made a couple of impressive cameo's at the end of last season as well, not saying he's back to his best but he looks closer than at any point in the last 3 years.

9 academy players are part of the camp: Harvey Davies (GK), Conor Bradley (RB), Owen Beck (LB), Billy Koumetio (CB), Jake Cain (CM), Leighton Clarkson (CM), Tyler Morton (CM), Kaide Gordon (FW) and Mateusz Musialowski (FW).

It will be interesting to see if any of these lads can do well enough over the month or so to become as Klopp describes them, “one of my boys”. These are guys who train full time with the first team rather than the academy. I know there is some hype around Musialowski but my money is on Kaide Gordon. He looks much further along physically and impressed in the first friendly. Conor Bradley had a great season last year and with Neco Williams rumoured to want a move there could be an opening at RB for a young lad.

Musialowski does look a terrific prospect though. Hope he gets some game time this pre season, yes he is young but plenty of players have been first team regulars at his age so I'm sure he can manage a couple of pre season run outs.
