He's actually a very good player Davies ,and he is certainly not one of the worst we have been linked to mate.

It wasn't so long ago that pundits were literally purring about the lads potential ,and I remember his display against us at the Reebok ,he was the catalyst
for a Bolton team that dominated possession .

He is definitely a rodgers type player with his passing and movement.

We could do worse.

Mark Davies is a decent premier league player. If we are looking to consolidate our position in mid table then he is perfect.

Heard that Madrid won't be offering Alonso a new deal, probably because of his age. Now that would be a Garry Mac signing (Not as old but still). If this is true, I think we'll have a good chance of signing him if we try to. Think he has a year or two left on his contract. Think he only has one.

If Mark Davies is the best we can do then then we are up shyte creek

No doubt a tidy footballer in his own right but FFS its game over for
Liverpool FC if thats all we can attract to the club

Surely its complete and utter BS  :no

i actually hope we sign that davies, i saw him against either united or city (i cant remember which one it was now but it was one of the top sides anyway) and he gave them all sorts of trouble, he`s deceptively skillfull, more than once he looked completely surrounded and boxed in by defenders but managed to dribble his way out of trouble.
he seems a bit like a quicker and stronger version of benayoun to me, those types of players are always handy to have at the club.
really hope we sign him.

maybe not but we need better players than him, and today there is a steven davis rumour, I'm from northern ireland he's our best player by far, and brendan rodgers is from not to far away from me, but i hope he doesn't use his northern irish status to help him sign players, because they all are not good enough for liverpool.

we really need to raise the bar or top 4 will never happen,

we need a cover left back, right wing and a striker.

most of the people we our linked with are neither

Agree on Davis, he is a steady player but not good enough at all for me.

Cant agree that we need a cover left back to be honest. Both Johnson and Kelly can play there and we have Robinson who is a promising youngster.
We definitely do need better attacking options both wide and another striker to give us options and cover injuries etc.

I would love us to move heaven and earth to get Alonso back after the news he isnt getting a new contract.

Alonso
Adam Johnson

and maybe someone like Demba Ba who is available for a decent price.

Rodgers needs to put down his best 11 on paper and then buy players that will
signinificantly improve that team.

If we cannot get anyone in that fits the bill then keep the money safe for another
day and work with what we have got until they do come along.

There has been enough waste on medicocraty to put 10 teams together in the last
few years and it has to stop.

I reckon Rodgers will want to have a look at the players he has in pre-season before making any significant moves in the transfer market.  People say we don't have the players to play the style of passing football Swansea did, but imo that's complete nonsense.  For all Swansea's good football they finished below us in the league and we were woefully inconsistent, so their quality of player can't have been that good.  In fact they punched well above their weight mainly due to Rodgers' management and I wouldn't be surprised if they were relegated this season without him.

If, and it's a big if, he can get us to adapt to that style we'll win more than we lose that's for sure.  We have players who can keep the ball, we dominated possession in the vast majority of games last season, if Rodgers can give the team a bit more direction and get them doing more with that possession we'll have a good season.  As I see it it won't require the massive transformation that some people think.

That said, there are obvious deficiencies in the squad.  Out wide is a problem.  I do think we need a bit more quality on the wing(s).  Clearly we are also a bit light up front and with Gerrard's advancing years we also lack goals and attacking quality from the centre of midfield.  We are also overall a bit thin on numbers and the squad probably needs beefing out a bit after we excessively streamlined it last summer (clearly Aquilani/Cole could have come in handy on occasion).

But this base is good...

GK Reina
RB Johnson
CB Skrtel
CB Agger
LB Enrique
CM Gerrard
CM Lucas
FW Suarez
FW Carroll

If it was me I'd consider using Suarez wide in a front 3 with Carroll the focal point and bring in someone else.  Bellamy would be good cover for either of the wide striking positions.  I'd bring in a creative attacking mid to play ahead of Lucas/Gerrard (easier said than done I'm sure).  Not sure Sigurdsson is the answer though.  We probably need another striker too.

People have concerns about how Carroll can fit into Rodgers' style of play.  So do I, but if Carroll continues his form from the end of last season we should find a way of adapting to his strengths.  We don't have to be a long ball side with him in.  If we make our possession count in terms of getting into better crossing positions for him rather than punting it 50 yards then why not?

Lastly, I can't see the owners giving Rodgers a lot of money to spend.  The poor return on last summer's investments won't have gone down well and I suspect we'll be looking at value for money signings rather than big money buys.  We won't be shopping for the same targets as Chelsea/Arsenal/United/City.  If I've never seen any of our new signings play before I won't be surprised.

I think that's a good shout about the 3 mate and think it would get the best out of our better players definitely.

Stevie isnt the box to box player he was so wont be able to play that sort of midfield role this season.
Most people feel that he should sit in view of this, i personally would do the opposite.

I would love to get Alonso in and like i said earlier Adam Johnson, and play this team and system.

                                                Reina

Johnson                       Skrtel                   Agger                Enrique

                                   Alonso               Lucas

                                              Gerrard

                   Suarez                                            Johnson

                                               Carroll

I think both of our full backs give great width and with the two sort of sitting players they would have cover if they push on.
It leaves stevie to concentrate on what i think has always been the best part of his game, damage in the final third.

Stevie is one of our better finishers as he showed against Everton at anfield last season, lets allow him to get in those positions still.

Wouldn't be any complaints from me if we signed Alonso and Adam Johnson.  Honestly don't think we'd get Alonso though, can't see it.  Johnson more realistic, but even then I think Man City would price him out of a move most likely.  Plus he'd probably have to be willing to take a wage cut which is rare in this day and age with footballers.
