i've seen oil tankers turn around quicker than Insua. He was painfully slow.

I think Konchesky has more expirience and Inusa has more potential and ability - would of liked to have them both at the club as Inusa does IMO have the potential to become a very good left back and having someone like Konchesky to step in to give him a break was something he could of done with last season . Konchesky as I have said we got because we could afford him not because he is very good .

konchesky is a far better defender than insua. i have no problem with konchesky signing. the main problem i have is the fact that we've given him a four year contract when he's 29 years old. you have to wonder who's making these decisions? the same for joe cole who's 29 and has been given a lucrative contract.

On Insua, I didn't think he was quite as dire last season as some make out.  With that said, I never thought he was all that special to begin with.  I remember seeing him for the under-20s Argies at the youth World Cup in Ottawa a few summers back and thinking that he doesn't look especially quality.  I was a little worried that he was being touted as a prospect for us, in actual fact.  In any case, he looked ropey some days and fine others.  I think Konchesky will be an improvement on him and I do think it will be a big surprise if he goes on to become a top player.  He's young still, of course, but he's small and lacks pace, which I think will make him a decent and no more LB for his entire career.

No it is fair to compare them. They are both left backs mate so the comparison is legitimate. Konchesky is the better player of the two comfortably.

He is better now at this point. But Insua is a kid and has the potential. He has been capped by his country after all. I don't think Koncheskey was held in as much regard as Insua is now at his age. Apples and melons.

I could suggest that Hodgson could sign Vinnie jones and you would claim it an outstanding signing . Still waiting for to find out why you haven't wax lyricaled Konchesky and Poulsen before this summer ?

I wouldn't say Vinnie Jones was an outstanding signing, don't be silly. I'm simply positive and optimistic about the way ahead, and if it doesn't resonate with your "the end is nigh" view on things then there's not an awful lot I can do about it. You were running around a few weeks back telling us all that all our best players would be off by now, and that we wouldn't be able to sign anyone, so it's just as well that those of us with a somewhat more positive take on things are usually proven right around here.

So, sorry that I think Konchesky is better than Insua and a good signing, and sorry that you don't. Similarly, sorry that I think Poulsen is far better than Lucas and you don't. There's nothing I can do about it really, and my feeling is that you are either going to have to accept the fact that you were wrong about most things or you aren't even going to be able to accept the glaringly obvious positives which are plain to see. You even disputed Joe Cole on a free was a good signing, like you are now disputing Konchesky is an improvement on Insua and Poulsen an improvement on Lucas. In the face of such an argument it's difficult to have a sensible discussion in all honesty.

As far as touting Poulsen and Konchesky goes, it's an odd question. Why would I need to have to tout someone for it to be now a god signing, I don't understand that. Anyhow since you ask, I'd never heard of Poulsen until six weeks ago. My first choice left back as you know was Figeroa, and in actual fact I have mentioned Konchesky a few times previously as a good player. When trying to think of midfielders who were better than Lucas I tried not to get involved in truth for two reasons. Firstly I haven't got a piece of paper long enough to contain the list, and secondly whenever you mention a player some numpty will say "but he won't come to us". Thankfully, that is yet another urban myth which has been well and truly put to bed.

Guess must be a pure case of spooky coincidence that the one player you say isn't good enough is the one player signed by previous manager while all signings by current manager are immediately good - umm interesting that we must give time to Hodgsons signings yet previous manager signing is all ready been written off - must be some sort of conspiracy theory ?!

But it is patently clear that Jovo is exactly a Rafa style player (no doubt in my mind), similar to Kuyt in that he can gallop about the pitch show a bit of aggression and generally be industrious. Yet we're waiting to see anything else from him as of yet, but I will give him the time any player deserves and likewise manager too, I sincerely hope he comes good and offers us more than Kuyt does on the right hand side. That's the problem with Rafa IMO he was never able to really sign players 'out of [his] box' so to speak.

I have had my say on Konchesky... sometimes more audible than most I hold my hands up ....but there is little I or anyone can add until he actually makes his debut  ,I will say I think he will be a more competent defender than Johnson ... but posters would think I was being a touch insincere as I am not Johnson's biggest fan when it comes to defending ,and that's what's baffling to me because its genuinely   something fans can see on the pitch but seem to choose to turn a blind eye  , by all means have a pop at Insua for his naivety in defence but don't  erase from your memory  the right side of our defence was equally as culpable last season as was the Left
there will be so much pressure on Konchesky when he finally plays to put in a solid display its frightening the amount of expectation ,and the fella will need time to bed in sufficiently ....I just think its foolhardy to expect him to give balance to our defensive displays straight away ....
Anyway I am here to be enlightened .....and only time will tell if my first impressions were a true reflection of his defensive ability
If he does produce a sterling performance I will be amongst the very first to be honest enough to say so ....and the last to say I told you so ....

While stats are often incomplete and therefore disregarded, and while they should be interpreted in context the set Benny mentioned are quite interesting in terms of comparing the 2 players performance last season. I would have been quick to agree with most on here in terms of Konchesky being a step up from Insua, admitting I didn't watch him particularly closely last year however these numbers suggest the difference may not be as obvious as we think. As stats go they remain incomplete but they are a better attempt than most we see posted in the tabloids. Unfortunately truly meaningful stats would require input from a statistician and I suspect very few people would have any interest in that .

Cole and Merlies (spelling ? ) have both the ability and experience to be very good for us - cole if he stays fit and Merealis if he adjusts to prem

Jovanovic - Unsure as he played very well first couple of games but since then and since we havent been playing well as a team we have struggled so im not sure about him

Poulsen and Konchesky both IMO are not good enough to improve us but would of been good back up to a better player but not first 11 . I do hope they prove me wrong and they do show they are good enough and improve us - same with the manager i do hope he improves us but at this moment in time i dont believe they will. As for Jones i will always believe he is a waste of money and would of preferred us to promote a youngster to sit on the bench .

Just to clarify - this does not mean i want them to prove me right just so i can say "i told you so " - i want them to make me say - " i was wrong " . And all of them will get my support just like i always have done .

Benny your points are valid but you will be hard pressed to find a fan who wouldn't swap Konchesky and Poulsen for Insua and Lucas.

Although the signing of Konchesky is not a glamorous one most would agree he will be less of a liability than Insua and thus an improvement.
