Our penalties - Who should take 'em

After Bellamy's miss, and Stevies miss against Fulham (and for England) do you think we need a new penalty taker when Fowler isn't playing? While we seem to do very well in penalty shoot outs we have an abismal record for converting penalties in matches.

My choice would be Kuyt as I think it would boost his scoring record and thereby his confidence, and I think he would score more often than not. I prefer the old fashioned blast to trying to trick the goalkeeper or placing it, and I am sure Kuyt would just blast it.

TBH I am scared everytime that we get a penelty becasue I know that we are so poor at them.  Gerrard's penelty taking has always been pretty poor.  It doesnt make sense that someone with a right foot like that cannot place one in either corner at will from that close.  For a world class player he is a terrible penelty taker.

Go for Kuyt I think, he is a player with confidence in h is own abilities and would thrive under the pressure of being the penelty taker.  Actually on second thought we should use the best striker of the ball in our squad......Agger (and yes, i am serious!)

Kuyt for penalty kick? i think that would be great. Will boost his confidence and and scoring record. By the way,IMHO it doesnt matter whether it's old fashioned blast or GK trick or whatever. The trick is full of confidence / no doubts. A good penalty kicker w/out confidence is nothing.  :)

and Agger? yup, why not?

Why not CARRA he's a good penalty taker and would certainly boost his goals record.
I know he missed 1 for england but the 1 he stuck away and the 1 he missed were probally englands best penaltys even though hargreaves scored it was a sh.it pen

If not kuyt is a good shout

If theres another team in world football with a worse ratio of scoring 90 minute game penalties over the last 5 years or so i'd feel sorry for them. Gerrard must have missed more than he's scored in the last few years and before that we had Owen who's convertion rate was dreadful aswell.

Weirdly though we always win every penalty shout out which is handy in Cardiff and Istanbul in those crappy cups. :D

You guys are right.... over the last few years, our penalty taking record in mid-game has been pretty poor.... both owen and gerrard seem to have some sort of mental block when it comes to penalties.

I reckon Agger... though it's still too early to tell, he seems to have the towering self confidence that I think is necessary to be a successful penalty taker. Plus the boy has one hell of a strike on him...

Stats :- Owen missed 11 out of 23 , Gerrard missed 4 out of 9, Kuyt scored 8 out of 8 in Holland.
