Expecting to get to CL Finals!

Think about expecting that a few years ago.

And people think we should get rid of Rafa  :no

You are both delusional and are in for a big fall I fear. I reckon and pray that we make 4th spot in the league, and I have a weird feeling we'll get quite far in the champions league but can you please tell me why you believe with our current form that we will sail past two of Man Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea?? If you think that we will suddenly start playing better and more consistently can you explain what you base this on, seriously I'd love for someone to give me some hope for this season.

Bayer LEverkusen
Juventus
Chelsea
AC Milan

Man United
Birmingham
Chelsea

Barcelona
PSV
Chelsea

Those Heimdall are the teams we beat to win the Champions LEague, then the ones we beat to win the FA Cup and the final group are the ones we beat to get through to Athens.

Get a grip you moserable tw@t.

I'm just being realistic, expecting to get to the champions league final AND also expecting to finish 2nd in the league is completely delusional.

Oh sorry did I put a crack in your rose tinted specs there?
Did you miss a beat in your happy clappy Rafa song?

Why is it the majority of you guys can't hold a decent discussion and instead just throw insults if someone disagrees with you?

Because you chat sh*t.  :D

Oh great reposte as always Lando, you are so clever with words. Now that you've accomplished the tricky task of forming short sentences of 3 or 4 words maybe you can start stringing some together into a paragraph, after that you can maybe one day hope to construct something called an argument!! In the mean time shut your mouth.

I think the abuse is starting a little early, this is only the buildup to the game, god help us once the match starts.

two bore draws in a row, even sultana wouldn't touch this fixture.

On another forum I compared Boro spending £10m+ on a player like having a HD TV in a squat.

Just read that the ref is Andre Marriner. He did the league game at Reading and had an absolute shocker.

I think Boro will go with:
Schwarzer

Young
Wheater/Huth
Woodgate
Pogatetz

O'niell
Boatang
Rochemback (one of the coolest names in the prem to say)
Downing

Tuncay
Lee Dong-Gook

They have some decent young talent in Wheater, Cattermole, and Taylor but the latter two are out injured as well as Mido and Aliadiere.  And Downing is pretty good, but I'm not too worried about them scoring.

We need to improve our form if we are going to win, but I don't see why that could not happen

I feel like with some of the pressure of being considered in the title hunt removed, we may just play with a bit more ease and fluency. I really can't see us not beating Boro.

I'd go for:

Reina

Riise
Hyypia
Carragher
Finnan

Kewell
Alonso
Gerrard
Pennant

Torres
Crouch

I think Alonso and our wing play could be key as Boro will set out to frustrate us as per usual. Switching the play quickly and stretching the play quickly is really the only surefire way to open up teams who set up like this - given that we don't really have a Garcia-type player any more i.e. a player who can infiltrate tight spaces in the centre of the pitch - Benayoun just isn't being deployed here either. Generally speaking though, we don't have many players who can operate in tight spaces ala Arsenal or Man U, so we rely on our wing play more along with direct play up to our strikers, with Gerrard making runs in the channels when afforded the opportunity to. The latter looks more unlikely in a fixture such as this one. When we do manage to stretch them with our wingers, it's imperative Gerrard and/or Alonso get into the box, or at least on the 18yd line - Alonso can shoot that's for sure. We can't have two forwards alone in the box, we need midfielders to get into the box to allow our forwards to move. Midfield runners and especially Gerrard are difficult to pick up and can unsettle the opposing defence - meaning our forwards can be more dynamic. Often when we go the wing route, we come in, and the 18yd box is static. You need runners to upset this, sometimes it's just too predictable and easy to defend against.

Team news :
Middlesbrough ,
Schwarzer, Turnbull, Young, Woodgate, Wheater, Pogatetz, Huth, Riggott, O'Neil, Boateng, Rochemback, Johnson, Downing, Tuncay, Lee, Hutchinson, Grounds.

Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate must reshuffle his midfield for the Premier League clash with Liverpool, with Julio Arca and Lee Cattermole ruled out through suspension.

Southgate will bring back Gary O'Neil who missed the FA Cup win over Bristol City, while George Boateng is also set to figure despite his recent difference of opinion with the Boro boss.

Egyptian striker Mido is still one week away from full fitness while Jonathan Woodgate (hamstring) and Tuncay Sanli (knee) remain doubts and Andrew Taylor is still out.

Liverpool:
Reina, Arbeloa, Finnan, Carragher, Agger, Hyypia, Riise, Pennant, Gerrard, Alonso, Mascherano, Babel, Lucas, Voronin, Kuyt, Torres, Crouch, Benayoun, Kewell, Skrtel, Itandje.

Daniel Agger returns to the Liverpool squad for the first time since he broke a metatarsal bone in September.

The Danish defender saw a reserve run-out against Blackburn on Thursday washed out, but boss Rafael Benitez is convinced the centre-back is ready for a comeback.

Alvaro Arbeloa, Jose Reina, Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres - who all missed the FA Cup draw at Luton - will also return.

Benitez will take new £6.5million defender Martin Skrtel to the Riverside, but the Slovakia international - whose transfer from Zenit St Petersburg was confirmed on Friday - is unlikely to be involved.
