So says the whole of Brazil as well, and I'm inclined to agree

I agree, if Rafa would let him go forward more often i think that would suit his game more, and we would hopefully see a lot more consistent performances.

Just looking at the goal now on TV... nice goal, very calm, very unlike Lucas... there may still be hope in this player, but one game wont be enough to change my oppinion about him.Ofcourse now I could also agree with some people from here that he should maybu play a bit more forward.

I'd play him more box to box, there's no point him just sitting back and scurrying around with Mascherano sitting in front of the defence. I don't feel he has the range of passing to make sitting as deep as he does work, for me he'd be a good 1-2 and little flick and pass merchant, not raking passes as a distributor like Alonso.

But it's not us that decides his role, that's our manager and he needs to shake off his mental shackles when it comes to his approach to games. If we have a back four and someone in front of them to protect them then we don't need a second player sitting deep all the time, we need more bodies going forward especially at home and against lesser sides. Benfica weren't the worst team to come to Anfield, if only we'd been a bit more attacking against other sides then it wouldn't have been Benfica we were playing at all. And the excuse of no Torres won't wash, he's played in defeats this season and he did not score either of the first two goals - and his first was teed up for him on a plate by Kuyt

At 137 pages, the Lucas thread is second only to the Owners thread.  What is it about this guy that so many people like?

You can sit him, have him playing at the base of the diamond, play him box to box, as a man marker, whatever you like. He isn't good enough, simple as that I'm afraid.

Well I think its fair to say he has improved a lot since a few seasons ago.. who's to say he might not improve even more over the coming years? :D

A player who was showing good promise to make the first 11 in 2-3 seasons time....the problem was he was thrown in the deep end by rafa. First of all he does not yet have good enough technical ability in terms of finding a quick ball FORWARD at a good rate. this starves us off a playmaker and leads to gerrard having no service thus leaving him ineffective.

I know he is not good enough but what I dont understand is why people are having a go at him when he was thrown into being our playmaker by rafa? all he has ever done is try his best...

I do not like the way is used by us.  In a game like today in which we were always in control Rafa seems to have asked him to sit back the entire time and when Lucas hears that he literally sits on top of our defense or something.  He was nonexistant today in a game where we completely dominated play and I do not believe that it was down to Lucas but moreso down to what Rafa ask him to do.

I'll tell you what, looking at Arsenal who can't even hold their water, they could do with a player like Lucas sitting in the middle breaking things up.

Was Lucas even in the team today?
He is just toally invisible on the field and he never gets stuck in or tackles for the ball. Just plain poor 98% of the time on the field.

Jogging around lethargically on the field makes me fuming
