Lucas is 21 by the way. Just because you sign someone at 20, doesn't mean they stay 20 forever. :D

He has come over here as a 20 year old from Brazil with very little experience, the chances of him setting the world alight this season were very slim. He looked good at the start season but has tailed off badly, don’t know what the reason is but I definitely have time for the lad.

Hopefully next season he will be better and stronger.

I just think that the pace of the game has got to him.  But no worries,  Next season, I'm sure will be very good for him at our club.

He's experience this season will help for the next campaign.  He now knows what it' like in the EPL and I would expect him to make the necessary changes so that his fitness levels are sharp all season long.

What are people expecting from a 21 year old KID in his first season in a BIG club and such a high pace in the premier league? Robinho? Alexandor Pato? , who is having a decent season like lucas  , i think he has done well , better then mikel did in his first season and look at mikel's size compared to lucas . Lucas is more of a attacking midfielder as he likes to get forward alot . Has good passing skill and a good shot in him . Next season he will set the world alight

EDIT - Just saw Joe's post regarding his age  :D

Lucas had an absolute minger today. From 3 early shots,2 of which landed in row Z with the 3rd being little better!
From what i seen he did'nt do anything positive all afternoon.Never played one good ball, hardly controlled a pass,he was a mess.
The only reason Rafa left him on i'd say is because he was giving him the benefit of the doubt and a chance to show something positive. The only good thing he done today was walk off for a shower.
With all the hype when he came and the high expectations, hes been such a dissapointment. If this is our future,we are fuc.ked.Back to Brazil on a one way ticket for me!

the lads 20 and hes had to adapt to a new life style and football style, give him time ffs, hes got talent just needs to build his strengh up in the gym and hell be fine

in the last two premiereship games against fulham n blackburn he was involved in 3 goals of our goals but noone gave him any credit?? i just think people love to have a whipping boy and since kuyt is in a bit of a purple patch some have moved there focas to a 20year old boy... its sad really

Your opinion mate and you are entitled to it!

First season and all that, yes, but in my opinion i have'nt seen enough to suggest he will improve to the quality we need for the future.
I'd love him to prove me wrong though, but cant see it.

Did ronaldo show people the skills he was in his first season? He had certain good games and more bad ones , manure fans were calling for him to be sold after his first season and even after the world cup . Ask them now whether they'd take rooney or ronaldo if they had to pick 1

Who was talking about Ronaldo or Utd??
Why are you even comparing Ronaldo......the discussion is nothing to do with him or man Utd!

All i said and i stick by it is that in my personal opinion i dont think Lucas is good enough or shows many signs of being good enough.More times than not this season when hes played he has been VERY poor and does not look suited to the EPL where players are given littles space or time on the ball.
I dont think hes going to cut it.On the other hand i may be wrong and in the next season or 2 he may turn into the Pele of this generation.........although i wouldnt hold my breath!

Basically he has had a poor first season and showed little promise!

I disagree with you barry, I don't think he showed a little promise, I think he did show alot of glimpses of what he is capable of, especially his game intelligence. He just needs to use his ability more in the right time at the right place, and if he can do that, then that would be awesome. Next season is a crucial one for him.

Typical situation: the lad's way over-hyped by some (better than Alonso?) and slagged off far too much by others (he made a major contribution today with that cross to Benayoun). :D  I think there may be something about him but he's not done a whole lot to impress in quite some time.  He'd be better for having a run of games with an established midfield partner but I think the jury is still well and truly out on whether he has enough in his locker to truly become a nailed on starting CM for a title-challenging side.

No bother mate i hope you are right.
But id like to have seen more signs and in more games.I know he has'nt had many consistant runs of games.
But if he had the natural ability it would be showing more in my opinion.I cant remember one game i've seen him in i've thought he played anything better than average or seen him do anything that made me excited about his promise for the future.

As for his game intelligence? That counts for nothing if you are refering to his anticipation of the game and positional sense?
Im more worried about what he does with his feet(or lack of) at present more than what he can do with his head! And i dont mean heading the ball btw! :D

Not only his anticipation and positional sense mate, another his creativity with the ball, I've seen it quite a few times, when he is given a bit more space and freedom he can pass a wonderful ball forward or can play a good one-two pass (remember gerrard's goal against blackburn), I think he has a good understanding between other players.

Back to his golden feet (ok im exaggerating here  :D ), has good touch from what I've seen, yes true nothing impressive right now, but he has something in him thats willing to come out  :D

Theres no doubt for me anyway that the lads got talent, he wouldnt be making Brazil squads if he had nothing about him.
Dont judge a book by the cover, unless you cover just another, because blind exceptance is a sign,

Well i'm using and example to compare and contrast and another example would be cesc fabregas !!! What are u especting from a 21 year old in a foreign league in his first season? Set the world alight?

From what i have seen....lucas looks pretty average. Even when u compare him with players like mark noble or micheal johnson... he looks really incompetant....

I know he is in the brazilian team and all.....but i remember kleberson once was in that team and he was pretty average too...  :D

Lucas is a fantastic player who has had 1 poor game that ive seen him play in....he keeps it simple but can do all the technically stuff when needed.............he & Babel will both be stars in afew years i have complete confidence in that
