Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

My formation:
                   Dudek

Finnan  Carragher  Hyypia  Warnock/Traore
              Biscan/Hamann
    Garcia  Gerrard  Alonso  Riise

                 Morientes

Subs: Carson, Le Tallec, Biscan(If Hamann is playing), Nunez, Warnock/Traore/Pellegrino.

Alonso will start provided he comes through the reserve game unscathed (If Benched, swtich to a 442 formation with Biscan/Hamann partnering Gerrard, Le Tallec coming as Morientes's support striker). Unsure over a few positions. If both Warnock and Traore are available, it will be a tough pick. And if there is a surprise return for Kewell, will Riise still be ahead of him? If Hamann and Biscan are available, who shall take up the slot behind Gerrard and Alonso (provided we play a 451?

Any thoughts and suggestions?

Or an alternative for a 442 even though Alonso starts.

                 Dudek

Finnan  Carragher  Hyypia  Traore/Warnock

   Garcia  Gerrard  Alonso  Riise
                 Le Tallec
                 Morientes

Subs: Carson, Nunez, Biscan/Hamann, Traore/Warnock/Pellegrino, Smicer.

or even Nunez on the right wing and Garcia taking the supporting striker role instead?

Man, this situation is simply getting too awkward.

After Hyypia's inspiring performance against Juve, i think he should really be picked ahead of Pellegrino, whose defensive presence seem to have detioriorated for the Bolton game.

My starting 11 would be very similar to yours Militia. I would possibly play ALT as a second striker sitting a little deeper like last night with Baros rather than directly behind Morrientes. Benitez seems to prefer playing the strikers like that when he hasnt got two out and out strikers available

judging by how this season has gone, i wouldn't be at all surprised if we gave a completely abject performance against city on saturday and got turned over. we're like jekyll and hyde. as a matter of fact, the difference between our european and league "performances" have been quite staggering at times.

it'll be interesting to see if alonso plays some part in the match. as for the rest of the side, bring morientes in for baros but keep the rest of the side the same. benitez should have learned from previous mistakes this season that you should not change a winning team unless you have to.

Team against Man City:

                  Dudek

Finnan Pellegrino Carragher Troare

Garcia   Welsh   Biscan   Riise

       Le Tallec Morientes

Subs

Smicer
Gerrard
Alonso
Hyypia
Carson

I think it might be an idea to keep Gerrard, Alonso and Hyypia fresh for the game against Juventus. In the second half Alonso and Gerrard could come on for Welsh and Biscan.

we have a pretty good record against man city but our record after european matches suck, however having said that we sucked after international week but we won against bolton, didnt perform all that well but grinded out the result, i can see god scoring and they have looked impressive under pyscho, macken missed a hatful of chances against charlton, i see this as a 1-1 draw, i know rafa takes 1 game at a time but his mind and the players mind will be on the return leg again juve, why is the 2nd leg a week after when all the other games were 2 weeks in between?  ???

put gerrard and alonso on for the second half. Rested they will be but give alonso a bit of EPL match play before next week.

if finishing 4th is so vital, why would you not play gerrard from the start in such a vital game?  ???

I think that the team I suggested is more than capable of winning.

My idea was that we could bring on Gerrard and Alonso in the second half for Biscan and Welsh. Man City will be running out of steam and those 2 will be able to come on and control the game.

Also Gerrard hasn't had much chance to have a breather lately and I think that it may be wise to keep him fresher for the game against Juventus,
