Pellegrino and Morientes definitely, as they wont be playing next week. Hypia could do with being fresh as well.

Id go for five man midfield then and use Nunez with Garcia picking up the link role.  Id also have Alonso for a half at least to give him match play before the Juve game.

I think it might be an idea to keep Gerrard, Alonso and Hyypia fresh for the game against Juventus. In the second half Alonso and Gerrard could come on for Welsh and Biscan.

It would make more sense to START with you're strongest 11 . If you want to rest people you can take them off at half time when we are leading 3-0 .   :D

The problem with that is if things arent going our way then we cant exactly take of our best players.

Has - Face it, you leave Stevie off the teamsheet and Stewart Pearce will come in his boxers. Talk about handing the initiative to the other team.

Start with a strong team against city when they see a weaker line up that would
motivate them even more never underestimate your opponents

                                   Dudek

        Finnan       Hyypia         Cara       Traore

        Garcia       Gerrard        Biscan      Riise

                   Baros          Morientes

Subs  Le tallec ,Pelligrino,Alonso,Nunez and Carson
Of course see how the games gone and
Then  rest Gerrard for Alonso Le tallec for Baros

Alonso played against Leeds reserves and it seems that he played well and that there were no problems as far injuries are concerned.

Also I'd like to mention that Hamann is most definetly out for this game according to earlier reports by LFC.

So here is my team selection:

.                   Dudek

Finnan   Carragher    Hyypia    Traore

                    Biscan

          Alonso     Gerrard    Riise

                  Luis Garcia

                    Morientes

Subs:
-Carson
-ALT
-Smicer
-Nunez
-Pellegrino

Losing this game would give everton a great chance to go more than 3 points ahead of us again in the race for 4th and given our away form this season, I think its the most probable outcome. After our herooic european performances we tend to be brought straight back down to earth with a boring, gutless domestic one and a lot of this is down to having to rest key players. I fancy rafa to go with this team:
.               Dudek
Raven Pellegrino Carra Traore

Nunez Alonso Gerrard  Riise

   Le Tallec    Morientes
Bench:
Carson
Warnock
Hyypia
Garcia
Biscan

This is why I think he'll pick this team:
1. Rafa will want to utilise pellegrino and morientes as they weren't involved in midweek and wont be next wednesday.
2. In these situations he tends to rest key players in this case Finnan and Garcia.
3. Alonso will need at least one premiership game if he's to be ready for next weeks game.
4. Le Tallec played well in midweek and will be played  in order for garcia to be given a rest.
5. Dudek will be recalled assuming he'll be fit following carson's mistake(dont get me wrong i still think sc will be a v. good keeper)
6. Rafa shocks us at times bringing less accomplished players into the mix(diao in for alonso against everton  ) sorry everyone, i didn't see this thread and opened my own one about the city game. i expect it to be locked any time
Steve Gerrard Gerrard,
He'll pass the ball 40 yards,
He's quick and he's f*cking hard,
Steve Gerrard Gerrard.

Sounds like a logical rundown to me but i would prefer him to play his best defence

I understand what you are trying to get across by saying that Rafa would bench Garcia,Finnan in order to rest them however I don't think that will happen. If we don't win against Manchester City then we will give a life line to Everton therefore we need to send out our  strongest 11, the whole resting players could end up bitting us in the ******. We rest them and get past Juve but lose to Man City then fourth place could still be held on by Everton, getting past Juve doesn't guarantee us anything. In order to truly know that we will play in the CL next year we need to finish fourth therefore this is a must win game.

When Rafa brought in Diao against Everton that was in order to counter Everton's physical presence in the midfield which didn't work, thats why when we played them at Anfield we beat them.

Manchester City don't play the same way Bolton and Everton do so therefore I don't think we'll see anything shocking on our teamsheet.

At this stage of the season teams with a lot to play for generally go with their strongest team and you won't see players rested as much as at the middle of a season. You need to get a run going and the best way to do that is to pick your strongest team.

What's all this nonsense about players - Gerrard or whoever - needing rests?

These guys are super fit, fed all the right things and trained in all the right ways - work hard a few hours a day and an hour and a half at the weekend. Wasn't a feature of Benitez' early days at Melwood the fierce training sessions? I remember reading how Danny Murphy said how tough it was. I think I also read somewhere that we would benefit at the end of the season because the players were so fit. As other teams (Everton?) ran out of steam our guys would be still strong as oxen.

They were knocked out of the FA Cup so haven't had that to content with and there's only one group stage in the CL. Most of the league cup campaign was played by the kids so they really haven't had too tough a season.

Was it in 1979 - an era when the players lived on steak and beer - that we won all before us using just 14 players?

Tired me hole. Gerrard looks like he would run three marathons back to back.

They have a month and a half to rest when the season ends.

Rest? Bollix to that.
