Yeah too many rose tinted specs regarding Rafa.. he sanctioned some disastrous signings in his last two years: Aquilani (18m), Babel (13m), Keane (21m), Dossena (7m), over 60m wasted, and worst of all alienated Alonso, and chased Gareth "socrates" Barry.

The time was right for him to go, unfortunately we still had statler and waldorf at the helm so his replacement was never going to be adequate.

I am not saying Rafa didn't make some bad signings late on which is also why he paid the price on the field. But at least he had a mixed bag of success with many successes early on and many poor ones late on.

As well as he wasted 60 million on those players he made us a cool 50 million on the sales from Alonso and Torres....

But the failure rate so far under is on a totally different scale than it was then.

agree Rafa's time was up...but i was never confident when Kenny took charge full time.  He did a great job of stepping in to help us, but that should have been it...Kenny could then have stayed at the club as a figurehead and we could have got a new young manager.

Instead, i can see Kenny leaving in failure and leaving the club he loves forever

If we're going to get CL football we need to show a shedload more desire than what we saw today and that's for the manager and the players on the pitch. We should be battering teams like that at home.

Are we expecting too much too soon? Under Roy we were plain but at least now we're hard to beat, wonder if we'll solve the other half of the puzzle in due course...

Dalglish has not been in the job long but he hasnt got long to get this team movinig forward. Hes not sat on a 5 year contract.

Its all about buying the right players and unfortunately for Kenny he has gone the same way as so many before him in buying the WRONG players for this club.

In the main our recruitment is abysmal and usually at a huge cost to the football club. We dont do things by halves, we wade in on these deals and ultimately get burned big time. Clubs that see us coming must be rubbing their hands.

We need to start getting recruitment right or it doesnt matter whos in charge we will do absolutely nothing.

We are hard to beat because the back 5 (Reina, Johnson, Enrique, Agger, Skrtel) are quality.

Of the front 6, only 2 are worth their place (Gerrard, Suarez).

We are 4 players short... and 70million was spent on three of the 4 positions (Carroll, Downing, Henderson).. who have offered less than Ngog, Maxi, Spearing. Its the british signings that have killed us.

For that to happen we need more skilled players and more players with flair and creativity who are allowed to think and work outside the box= buying no more overrated expensive english players that doesn't fit the bill anyway.

True, but that will be a very hard sell to the owners telling them to forget those 70 million on Downing, Henderson and Caroll, and that he needs another 70 million....

I'm not criticising Kenny at all and people shouldn'r expect instant success but when Raffa joined he strengthened us each year until the two yanks took us over and we've not had any success since.

I remember 4-5 years ago when we were in the semis in the CL calling the league cup a mickey mouse cup and not worth much since all it did was give a europa league place.

But now...
It is the best thing since sliced bread and covers all the blemishes of an abysmal league campaign...

So you would rather take a league cup win every year and finish outside top for for 4 years straight instead of finishing top 4 three out of those 4 years??

What really makes it hurt is that our rivals for the top 4 spots are not really playing all that great either. The quality of the top teams of the premier league is not what it was a couple of years ago.

Some proportions ,Rafa's last years were $hiit his Aqua signing was criminal and his teams were so tacticful it squeezed the life out of everyone ,he was your classic cup manager but not a team builder or PL contender.

Kenny deserves his chance for sure ,i agreed with every single signing he made for the team and he i'm sure is devastated more then anyone with their current performance ,his tactics on the other hand are a total failure and so far he failed in deploying the correct players in the right position with the right game plan. He needs to understand that not losing isn't the purpose of the game ,at least not for Liverpool ,he must take risks if he want to succeed.
